This is a picture from my day job. The red balls are grass pollen, and the tubes from them are growing down into the flower to fertilise the ovary. To get ready for the photo took some serious effort to get the timing right, then use of chemicals to stain the pollen red, then actually get to the microscope to take the photo. After reading in the forums about the paths people have taken to become artists, and thinking of my desire to be one (as in, to be able to spend all my time on creative pursuits), I began to think about what skills I have already from my current path. My challenge was to find a creative application of those skills, because I’m not in a position to give up work. Yet :) I’ve been using photography to record my work for many years, so that was the first and most obvious answer. I just thought I’d throw that up for interest, as it’s not the sort of thing that you would want framed in your living room I’m sure LOL!
This is the stigma of an ‘Amaryllis’ flower. I put the water drop onto it.
Macro shot of the center of a deep red tiger lily! The flower in 4 inches wide! / No adjustments were made to this photo. It as is from the camera. MY BUBBLESITE
Got a bouquet of flowers and with the help of Gideon, did some macro photography. Love the colour!.......and the the stigma and filaments with the anthers came out so clearly. Thanx for taking the time to have a look! Much apreciated =-)
I hope people aren’t tired of my origami; but I needed to do this before the flower dies; my mom brought some flowers back from a wedding two weekends ago, and when I saw this particular flower, I really wanted to create this image because the centre of this flower looked like a field. The folded peacock is comprised of two piece of paper: one for the body, the other for the tail. The body is made from a 6×6mm paper, and the tail I faned out of a circle about 1cm in diameter which I cut a slit through. The peacock walks through a field of colour and gets pollen on itself; and that is how the peacock got its color! What looks like an abstract alien landscape, is in fact the Anther: The tip of the stamen that carries the pollen. [Sony a350, Minolta Rokkor 100mm/3.5 on bellows, f:/11, 13 sec. ISO-100, RAW] / /

A furry little stigma on a little orange flower. As I said yesterday i have no idea what these flowers are. They are a sort of succulant. Nikon D40 18-55mm with clip on macro filter. As is except cropping to improve the composition.

Concluding the series… After all the spectacular colours, the vivid macros and the intricate detail, I just wanted to add a picture that shows the soft, subtle, more… pink qualities of the lily. After all it is a just a truly beautiful flower… [Sony a350, Sigma 17-70@50mm, f:13, 1sec, ISO-100] / The Lily Series:

A close up of a orange lily. I think front petal looks like a tongue being stuck out. hence the pun title. MY BUBBLESITE
One of the beauties of the Stargazer Lily. STIGMA . . .The “knob” on the end of the PISTIL which receives the POLLEN. A sticky substance called STIGMATIC FLUID bathes the stigma when it is “ready,” holds the pollen and stimulates it to germinate.
