  • Eilean Donan Castle one of the Iconic Scottish Castles was just a magic place to visit and photograph. I spent close to 9 hours taking in the surrounds, the atmosphere and the serenity and of course the odd photo or two. Here is one of my favourites, I really like the balance of light and the reflections. This was the 3rd last photo I took during this 9 hour period, and goes to show that patience can pay off. All money raised with the sale of my works until November goes towards the Steven T. Hill Stroke Foundation. For more information on the foundation and Steve’s touching story please follow this link. here Steven T. Hill Stroke Foundation Photo Info : Nikon D200 @ ISO 200, 50mm 1.4 lens.

  • / / ScienceDaily (Jan. 10, 2002) AUSTIN, Texas Half of all living bird and mammal species will be gone within 200 or 300 years, according to a botany professor at The University of Texas at Austin. (link) / / Although the extinction of various species is a natural phenomenon, the rate of extinction occurring in today’s world is exceptional as many as 100 to1,000 times greater than normal, Dr. Donald A. Levin said in the January-February issue of American Scientist magazine. (link) / / If present trends continue, a mass extinction is very likely underway. The evidence is pieced together from details drawn from all over the world, but it adds up to a disturbing picture. This time, unlike the past, it’s not a chance asteroid collision, nor a chain of climatic circumstances alone that’s at fault. Instead, it is chiefly the activities of an ever-growing human population, in concert with long-term environmental change. (link) / / The typical rate of extinction differs for different groups of organisms. Mammals, for instance, have an average species “lifespan” from origination to extinction of about 1 million years, although some species persist for as long as 10 million years. There are about 5,000 known mammalian species alive at present. (link) / / Given the average species lifespan for mammals, the background extinction rate for this group would be approximately one species lost every 200 years. Of course, this is an average rate; the actual pattern of mammalian extinctions is likely to be somewhat uneven. Some centuries might see more than one mammalian extinction, and conversely, sometimes several centuries might pass without the loss of any mammal species. Yet the past 400 years have seen 89 mammalian extinctions, almost 45 times the predicted rate, and another 169 mammal species are listed as critically endangered. (link)

  • This is Hope my Lurcher, on a snowy febuary day in 2007, she wasn’t that keen on the weather but did oblige me with this quirky shot. I have another Lurcher called Grace as well as Rubicon and Renegade the Ferrets who complete the team, Hope has the nose for finding quarry and Grace has the speed to fill my freezer. Here are the two dogs playing in the snow.

  • Rapeseed oil fields surrounded my cottage in the summer of 2007, everything was turned yellow by the pollen, but what a photographic opportunity!

  • Polly Joke is a local name for a remote beach on Cornwall’s north coast, it is my favorite beach for beach-combing after a high-tide and provides me with plenty of photographic and sculptural material. Here are a few more of my photos taken in Cornwall me ‘ansom.

  • Someone once wrote- One night a man had a dream. / He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from his life. / For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, / one beloning to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, / he looked back at the footprints in the sand. / He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. / He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. / This bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, / you’d walk with me all the way. / But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. / I don’t understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.” The Lord replied “My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. / During your times of trial and suffereing, / when you see only one set of footprints in the sand, / it was then that I carried you.”

  • This is actually the oldest piece I’ve posted in here. I did this back when I was a freshmen in college nearly ten years ago. Wow, was it really that long ago? Seriously? Holy crap, I’m getting old. Anyway, this thing was absolutely huge and I went though a a WHOLE LOTTA’ pencils while drawing it.
