  • PINHEAD HAS GONE MISSING!!! / . / Has anyone seen him?

  • WILD & FREE / / To spend an hour with Mountain Gorillas is one of the best wildlife experiences you can ever hope for. They captivate you with their eyes and you become lost in the moment. Your time with them goes so fast you are left just wanting more… / / (Virunga volcanoes, Rwanda.) / / Nominated for ‘Pay It Forward’ group by: / Julie Langford / / ” This image for me just shows the Mountian Gorilla for what it really is. A beautiful and intelligent being, capable of emotion, love, care and understanding. The photograph is stunningly beautiful and technically perfect in every way. I adore this piece of art, in my eyes, it is a true masterpiece. “ / / / / /

  • Will these majestic apes be able to hold onto what little hope they have? Lets all hope so!! / / To spend an hour with Mountain Gorillas is one of the best wildlife experiences you can ever hope for. They captivate you with their eyes and you become lost in the moment. • A powerful and bold sky above the old section of the Millicent Cemetery. The work and effort put into the headstones in these days is a testament to the love, honour and memories of those passed and those left behind. Canon 400D, 3 shot HDR, converted in Photomatix and tones altered in Photoshop.

  • The Beachport Jetty in the Limestone Coast, the second longest in South Australia. The jetty is currently closed for repairs with most of the upper structure being replaced. The railway tracks and handrails have been removed and I believe the rails will be back up in time or the Christmas Holiday rush when the towns population goes from 450 up to about 5,000!!!! A rare chance to get a shot like this before the repairs are finished. Three shot stitch in Photoshop CS3. Canon 400D 18/55 with CIR Polarising filter.

  • One lonely ladybird, (ladybug), found in our garden this week. Hiding back in the shadows and slowly working towards the light. For those of you who have visited my site before and seen the many thousands of these beautiful creatures that I have photographed before at my “secret location” will be dismayed to find out they are all dead. Seems Council staff couldn’t prevent them from entering a nearby radio repeater station and rather than build a barrier sprayed the lot!!!! I have voiced my complaint and hope one day they will be able to breed and again mass in their thousands. In the meantime we can only hope lone ones like this survive and remain alive in our gardens. Canon 400D Sigma macro 100 – 300, worked on in Photoshop CS3.

  • Another image from the late night shoot near Mannum South Australia. Just love the River Murray and the starkness of the willow trees lining the banks in this spot create wonderful silhouettes at last light. Thanks to Dave and River Rat from Mannum (mannum Motel) for their support in joining me on these repeat visits to this magical little strip of the river. Canon 400D, CIR polarising filter. 18-55 lens.

  • Rick and Gypsy walking along the Beachport Jetty, (second longest in South Australia), at Beachport in the Limestone Coast region. The jetty is currently under repairs and handrails and railway tracks have been removed, creating the flat unguarded jetty you see here. Stretching into the distance like a runway! Canon 400D 18-55 lens 3 shot HDR in photomatix.

  • Another from the series taken at Crystal Castle near Byron Bay New South Wales of a small Bromeliad poking out in the bottom of the garden. Canon 400D Sigma 100-300 macro.

  • The sad part of my recent visit to the Riverland of South Australia. A backwater area, normally with substantial water, slowly drying out in the drought with salt and acidification of the soil. The drought and inaction on the river levels is certainly causing irreversible damage. However it needs to be said that there is still plenty of water in the River Murray itself for activities and visits. We need to continue to support the tourism and other businesses along the river as they battle through hard times. So that said, go visit the river and its people and maybe drop back away from the river itself and see what is slowly happening to the backwaters. Canon 400D 18-55 lens with CIR Polarising filter. (Dirty boots and clothes from standing in the mud!!!!!) Thanks to Emjay01 for visiting with me, go and have a look at his site for images of the River in its beauty. seehere

  • Out in the early morning fog this morning, trying a little limited DOF work with some of the cobwebs covered in dew. Canon 400D 18-55 lens with three stage extension tubes. Shot taken alongside the open drainage works that crisscross between Millicent and Mt Burr in the Limestone Coast area.

  • WILD & FREE / / Polar bear having a nice rest on an ice floe. / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hut! (Spitsbergen – Scandinavian Arctic) / /

  • Before the dawn, Noora Evaporation basin near Renmark South Australia. Just before the sun with a brooding blue stormy cloud line silhouetting the majestic old dead river redgum trees that line the basin. As most of you know this is one of my favorite spots to sit and watch the sun come up! Canon 400D – 18-55 lens with CIR Polariser topped with ND4.

  • Early morning just as the sun starts to rise – Lyrup backwaters near the Noora evaporation basin in the Riverland of South Australia. This is a backwater lined with majestic old river red gums but is not indicative of the main river. Still plenty to do and see on the river itself and well worth a trip. Canon 400D 18 – 55 with Polarising filter. Three shot panoramic stitched in Photoshop CS3.

  • Another image from this weeks late night stroll in back alleys off of Hosier Lane, in Melbourne’s CBD. The varying lighting and shadows helped to create mood which varied dependent upon the angle and direction of the shots. Quite eerie and daunting shooting this series alone, next time I must get someone to come along!!!!! This is a three shot HDR converted in Photomatix, shot with a Canon 400D – 17-85 lens.

  • During last weeks trip to Melbourne I went on an evening stroll and found this line of columns and light at the front of the General Post office (GPO) in the heart of the city. The lines and shapes made for an interesting almost abstract look. The tunnel effect here puzzled me at first as there seemed to be a line working bottom right to top left as well. It was as if the bottom left of the shot separated itself from the rest of the image…...maybe it was just because I was tired by then!!!!! Now that I look at it again is it a line that works from bottom Left to the right???? Lines – lines – lines…..... Canon 400D – 17-85 lens.

  • Please View Large Eilean Donan is a Scottish Heritage Site. Wikipedia © The original castle was built in the early 13th century as a defence against the Vikings. By the late 13th century it had become a stronghold of the Mackenzies of Kintail (later the Earls of Seaforth). In 1511, the Macraes, as protectors of the Mackenzies, became the hereditary Constables of the Castle. / In 1539 Iain Dubh Matheson, chief of the Clan Matheson died whilst defending the Castle on Eilean Donan island against the Clan MacDonald of Sleat on behalf of the Clan Macrae and Clan Mackenzie. / In April 1719 the castle was occupied by Spanish troops attempting to start another Jacobite Rising. The castle was recaptured, and then demolished, by three Royal Navy frigates on 10–13 May 1719. The Spanish troops were defeated a month later at the Battle of Glen Shiel. / The castle was restored in the years between 1919 and 1932 by Lt. Col. John MacRae-Gilstrap. The restoration included the construction of an arched bridge to give easier access to the castle. In 1983 The Conchra Charitable Trust was formed by the Macrae family to care for the Castle. A curious distinction is that it has one of only two left-handed spiral staircases in a castle in Great Britain, as the reigning king at the time of building held a sword with his left hand. One strange feature of the castle today is the grey field gun from the Great War, positioned outside the building by a war memorial and fountain dedicated to the men of the Macrae clan who died in the war. / Eilean Donan is the home of the Clan Macrae. In 2001, the island had a population of just one person. • Please View Large Wikipedia © / Alnmouth is a village in Northumberland, England. It is situated just off the main A1068 road (to Ashington), about 4 miles (6 km) south-east of Alnwick. / Located at the mouth of the River Aln, the village has been an important trading port in Northumberland’s past, mainly involved in the export of grain, and smuggling. Due to the trade in grain, the village contained a number of granaries. The port declined after the river changed course during a violent storm in 1806. This incident also resulted in the original church which stood on Church Hill being destroyed. The church had already suffered much erosion by the river and was in a state of collapse. After the loss of the grain exports, the old granaries were converted to houses. / Today, Alnmouth is a popular tourist resort. It is within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village boasts the fourth oldest golf course in the country.
