  • Mutiny By His Own Crew In the wee morn, the crew gathered to mutiny against their Captain, the choice was plain and simple leave his ship or die. / He had heard some time ago they were secretly planning a mutiny so he prepared ahead and unbeknowst to them they had returned to the far side of the island to which he had already buried his treasure. Now he just had to retrieve it and wait for an unsuspecting shp to come to shore and manage his way into their crew and later take it over. ©2007 Lisa C. Weber

  • This is a photo of the packing house that Dunn-Waters built to process the fruit and produce from his farm for shipment via one of the CPR stern wheelers that plied the waters of Okanogan Lake. See below for a photo of the Fintry Queen: http://www.redbubble.com/people/rebelpony/art/603964-2-progress-or-destruction / The wharf is missing from the lake end of the building as it looks like they are getting ready to replace it. At one time in the sixties and early seventies this building was a bar and night club and the Fintry Queen stern wheeler would pick up party goers in Kelowna and drop them off here for a night of entertainment and dancing. I remember partying here into the wee hours on a few occasions.Photo taken Mar.21/2008

  • Originally conceived in my head while having a massage, / I’d be interested to hear what you see in the statues expression

  • Taken at Hastings a couple of weeks ago. I love the stern expression in this pelicans eye! I’ve cropped and enlarged it, then played with the Curves as it was a fairly dark pic. I hope this one gives you a smile. Thank you for looking – all comments and criticisms are appreciated.

  • Photograph of Passion Flower taken 13 May 2009. Information courtesy of Wikipedia here The passion flowers or passion vines (Passiflora) are a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants, the namesakes of the family Passifloraceae. They are mostly vines, with some being shrubs, and a few species being herbaceous. For information about the fruit of the passiflora plant, see passionfruit. The monotypic genus Hollrungia seems to be inseparable from Passiflora, but further study is needed. Popularly, passionflowers and especially passionfruit are frequently used with sexual or romantic innuendo, giving rise to such uses as a one-time soft drink named Purple Passion. The “Passion” in “passion flower” does not refer to sex and love however, but to the passion of Jesus Christ. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish Christian missionaries adopted the unique physical structures of this plant, particularly the numbers of its various flower parts, as symbols of the last days of Jesus Christ and especially the Crucifixion. The pointed tips of the leaves were taken to represent the Holy Lance. / The tendrils represent the whips used in the Flagellation of Christ. / The ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles (less St. Peter the denier and Judas Iscariot the betrayer). / The flower’s radial filaments, which can number more than a hundred and vary from flower to flower, represent the Crown of Thorns. / The chalice-shaped ovary with its receptacle represents a hammer or the Holy Grail / The 3 stigmata represent the 3 nails and the 5 anthers below them the 5 wounds (four by the nails and one by the lance). / The blue and white colors of many species’ flowers represent Heaven and Purity. The flower has been given names related to this symbolism throughout Europe since that time. In Spain, it is known as espina de Cristo (“Christ’s Thorn”). Old German names are Christus-Krone (“Christ’s Crown”), Christus-Strauss (“Christ’s Bouquet”, Dorn-Krone (“Crown of Thorns”), Jesus-Leiden (“Jesus’ Passion”), Marter (“Passion” or Muttergottes-Stern (“Mother of God’s Star”. Outside the Christian heartland, the regularly-shaped flowers have reminded people of the face of a clock; in Israel they are known as “clock-flower” (שעונית), and in Japan they are called tokeisō (時計草, “clock plant”). In Hawaiian, they are called lilikoʻi; lī is a string used for tying fabric together, such as a shoelace, and liko means “to spring forth leaves”. In northern Peru and Bolivia, the banana passionfruits are known as tumbos. This is one possible source of the name of the Tumbes Region of Peru.
