  • On Good-Friday 2009, my wife, myself and two nieces visited the Adelaide Zoo . We photographed many of the animals, but these photographs are my favourite for the day. There is an interesting twist to this photograph that enabled me the opportunity to take the shot: Many Adelaide zoo-visotors would know this vantage point where you can photograph the tree-monkeys. / A young korean guy was standing here with his wife and youngster, him throwing bits of his fruitbar to the monkey, trying to entice it to the top of the branch. I was around the other side of the tree at the higher vantage point, so thought it was a zoo-keeper feeding the primates. When I quickly rushed down the boardwalk to this location, I was shocked to catch the young man throwing the last piece. I succinctly told him to discontinue throwing food. / Him: “It’s OK, all gone!” / Me: “Good.” / Then he pretended to throw food, with part of the plastic wrapper sticking out of his fist. / Me: “Hey! Just stop it. Please stop doing that. Don’t tease the monkey!” / Him: “It’s OK, I have nothing.” He was very obviously an international tourist. / Me: “Just don’t do it. OK?” / Him: “OK, sorry.” (With a slightly dumbfounded look on his face). His partner was slightly embarrassed. / He stopped, but he stayed right he was, thinking I was going to go away. Then he turned back to the monkey … and pretended to throw food again! / This time another guy in the crowd pushed through and pointed the guy to the sign (that I couldn’t see from where I was standing) that very plainly says: / “DON’T FEED THE ANIMALS”. This time he decided to move along. Thankfully for me the monkey stayed where he was sitting on the end of the branch … and I was a little bit closer! / So I took the opportunity to shoot a dozen photographs of the amazing off-yellow fur, those beautiful eyes and black-leather hands. • Ropes on the Kingscote pier for the dinghy’s. Whilst I waiting for the Pelican-man to arrive, I stood out on the pier with half the audience wondering what I was doing. This image is the result of shooting with a “Canon EOS 400D” with “Canon EF Zoom 75-300mm 4-5.6mm III”, then manipulated in GIMP to this monochrome format. It is one of my two favourite shots for the entire five day holiday. / Your comments appreciated… SISTER SHOT / All artwork is copyright© to Stephen Mitchell / All Rights Reserved.
