I wanted to capture the steam flowing upward to the colder fall air.. The big Koi pond holds its heat longer than the others so this provided a chance to see the sun rays passing threw its morning awake.. Resized 12-13-2007

HMS Warrior is a nineteenth century ironclad. She’s a beautiful vessel moored permanently within the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth. I pass her every day on the way into work and she never fails to give me a little lift. When I was coming home and the sunset was looking so gorgeous, I couldn’t resist missing my ferry home for this shot!

A night shot of the blue lagoon. Ironically it was about minus two outside the pool and boiling hot inside. While I was photographing this it was snowing. As always there is always something happening….

On a recent expedition, Magoo2 and I discovered this old rail tunnel in the Lincolnshire Wolds – which was no mean feat,- we had the nettle stings, mud scrapes and bruises [from being whacked by various tree branches during our ‘controlled descent’ of the overgrown gulley] to prove it! The tunnel seems to be Victorian, from the steeply vaulted roof, and is ‘faced and lined’ with higher grade materials [for show] at each end but bellies out to a larger bore built of red brick further in. There’s no trickery with this one, only ambient light and a ‘star effect’ courtesy of an f8 aperture.

I love stumbling upon such urban scenes. Steam was floating from the gutter, the clatter of contruction drifted from several buildings, it had a great feeling with the addition of the big red stripe!

Hopefully, I have raised the bar a bit with this one – it has taken a while (been on the burner since last summer wondering how to make the best of the original pic). This is Union Pacific Big Boy 4012. For many years, 4012 was displayed in the front of the Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton, PA, USA, but in 1993, 4012 was moved into the yard at Steamtown after much effort and bridge removal. Truly the most magnificent beast – so much so, I treated myself to a radio controlled model last time I was in the USA. I have completed this project as a 300dpi wall poster – and this is a small version!
