Emigration statutes in the Waterloo Sq uare of the City of Derry Ireland. In the 1800s, due to mainly the Irish famine, many emigrants left the Derry port for the last time prior to reaching their new destinations. Between 1800 and 1870 nearly 250,000 people spent their last night on Irish soil in Derry before emigrating the next day. These 2 sets of statutes have been erected in the memory of the emigrants. Emigration has always been a major feature in Irish life past and present. Derry used to have a thriving shipping port in cargo and people conveyence but today the port has moved from the City Center (The Derry Quay) to several miles down stream to an place called Lisahally.

This example of classical Greek architecture is from the Acropolis in Greece. This architecture was constructed between 421 and 405 BC. This is a part of the temple “The Erechtheion”. The Erechtheion is an ionic building and named after a hero of the myth, “Erechthus”. This architecture in this picture is the south porch of The Erechtheion. This is one part of the porch of the 4 maidens called “The porch of the Maidens”. / Olympus SP55-OUZ

This is the orignial of Chicago Tradition without added effects. I just love the two lion statutes that are at the enterance to the Art Institute of Chicago. I always look forward to the wreaths being put on them for the season. This is just such a part of Chicago Tradition. To me, this would a wonderful Christmas and Greets from Chicago card, combined. This is the other lion statue on the other side of the enterance.

I was driving by our County Fair Grounds today in a neighborhood I’m not that familiar with and spotted this old tree trunk carved into a man’s face. He is about 3-1/2 feet tall. I just had to stop and take his picture. Taken with my Nikon D80 FEATURED in the Woodworking group Most Popular / My Favorites / Dahlias / Cards and Collages Please visit my bubblesite.
