  • A rework of my In Praise of Shadows non-entry.

  • Copyright 2005 Kerry McFarland / I started noticing that when the sun would go down, little flickers would light up everyone’s windows in their house. I’d be out walking (I lived in the desert and it was too hot to do so earlier), with all the beauty outside surrounding me, and silence; Then these houses…flickering. Every night, after 5, I’d see the same thing. I wouldn’t see people sitting outside enjoying the sunset. I wouldn’t see people gathered around a BBQ, I wouldn’t see people out walking with their lovers, enjoying one another. Shades drawn, little flickers. I felt the neglect. So much is going on outside, yet many people spend countless hours watching a little box. What about what’s going on right in their own backyard, their family, their city…their country. The complacency is frightening. That is what this series is about.

  • A dancer is frozen mid-leap, hair and dress radiating outwards. Copper and platinum on black.

  • Two leaves cast to the wind only to be rescued from the rushing water by a rock. A metaphor for life and way we can be cast to the winds of change and hustle and rush of everyday life. Yet one can find peace in our faith if we seek it. Refuge from the flood, the flow the busy lives we lead. Here’s to quite moments of reflection.( A Finalist for the Betterphoto’s November 05 image of the Month)

  • This intimate, bright yet dark, static yet flowing, autumn themed image was made in Baxter State Park, Maine, USA in October 2006. I like the contrast of the flowing water beneath the still branches, the pop of color from the remaining birch leaves, and the juxtaposition of the branch atop the stream in tone and color! /

  • Tens of thousands of Snow Geese winter at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. It’s quite a sight to see well over 10,000 birds all take flight at the same moment!

  • Nikon D70 Google Picasa editing software One massive stroke of good luck

  • Obviously heavily based on a certain lovely Rock Icon and the hub bub that surrounded him and persons like him. It’s a joke, you know.. he got a lot of static, but he was still beautiful! Alphabet Soup: B is for Bowie Symbolism: Well, as I said, he got a lot of static – the static’esque sort of painting is reflective of his life, so are the blurred lines, and the fact that it is both hyper colourful and darn near faded out – like he was at that point in his career. Thank you!

  • Macro nail using light and shadows.

  • In memory of Static Major from PLAYA

  • The Old Telephone Box: Years ago we used to rely on phoneboxes. People didn’t have mobile phones and most people didn’t have a phone in their home either. So the phonebox on the corner of most streets in the UK became a hotline for all forms of communication. Like the old letterbox beside it, sometimes our communications with one another took time, and we would make use of that time to think about what we were going to say before speaking. Now, with instant communications; email, and mobiles, sometimes we don’t even consider our words. Let’s be careful to encourage one another, and build people up. Let’s consider our words carefully beofre speaking or writing. People are delicate beings and get hurt easily, let’s be careful not to bring offence into their lives. As far as it lies with us, let us be a peace with everyone. The Old Phonebox reminds me to consider my words careflly when speaking to others. Don.

  • It’s 3am, you are sitting in the lounge room watching TV. Without warning, reception is lost, the lights turn off, all that remains is a slight hissing and static noise buzzing on your brand new flatscreen TV.
