Moods of Mallabula Series / Best Viewed Large At low tide the Tilligerry foreshore is a wonderful place to explore, with it’s broad sand flats, rock platforms and pools. At high tide on a hot day, it’s a cooling spot for a swim; the best place to take dip is under one of the many Tea Trees which overhang the water along the boardwalk between Mallabula and Tanilba Bay. /

High on windswept ridges in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in eastern California’s White Mountains live the planet’s oldest known living organisms – the ancient Bristlecone Pines (Pinus longaeva). Some of these trees were already growing when the Egyptians built the pyramids over 4000 years ago. The oldest known Bristlecone Pine is “Methuselah”. This gnarled and twisted tree is about 4,800 years old – and still able to reproduce. But only a few bristlecones have been able to grow to such incredibly old ages, survived ultraviolet rays, extreme cold, wind, and aridity in this harsh environment between the Eastern Sierra Nevada and Death Valley in an elevation between 10,000 and 11,000 feet (3,048 and 3,354 meters) above sea level. Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

It is located in Flatwoods, Kentucky, in Greenup County, which lies in the northeastern part of the bluegrass state. Many of my relatives live in or just outside of Flatwoods, and my Dad built this one. / / The scenery from this road is almost surreal, it is so beautiful. Surrounding this road are country farms, barns and old churches. This road winds around a gorgeous mountain cloaked with a variety of lush trees and evergreens, whose leaves are radiant in the Fall of the year with brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red, brown and green. / / At the top of the mountain is the end of this magnificent road, which leads to a private, gated mansion that overlooks the entire county. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and everything, including time, seems to stand still on this beautiful road. ~ Historic War Eagle Mills ~ A fascinating and nostalgic historic site / nestled in the rolling Ozark hills of Northwest / Arkansas, War Eagle Mill is one of the many / picturesque places in the Natural State. I remember riding in the back of the truck, as my daddy took a load of corn to this mill to have it ground, and I remember all those hot pans of cornbread my momma used to cook with that huge pot of brown beans…...boy things have sure changed today!! / You can get a great bowl of beans while visiting this mill, they have a really great restaurant, but I have to say I do not think I have ever tasted a bean like my momma cooked. /

What summer means to me is escaping civilization, after being cooped up and snowed in for months, and camping out as long as possible (usually until more snow forces us back indoors). If I wasn’t able to spend some of my summer in the woods, I think I’d go crazy. I need the complete quiet of nature to recharge my batteries and make me more pleasant to be around.
