OK, it gets hot here, very hot. I have enhanced this photo taken in our desert to show how it feels to be out in the heat this time of the year (August). Actually, on a really hot day, the film gets washed out by the bright light and intense heat….so the photo as it comes out of the camera does not reveal the sweltering temperatures unless the image is enhanced. It has been enhanced with Photoshop CS3. The enhancements have given it a surreal effect. / _______ Due to its large area and variations in elevation, the state has a wide variety of localized climate conditions. In the lower elevations, the climate is primarily desert, with mild winters and hot summers. Typically, from late fall to early spring, the weather is mild, averaging a minimum of 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15 °C). November through February are the coldest months with temperatures typically ranging from 40–75 °F (4–24 °C), although occasional frosts are not uncommon. About midway through February, the temperatures start to rise again with warm days, and cool breezy nights. The summer months of May through July bring a dry heat ranging from 90–120 °F (32–48 °C), with occasional high temperatures exceeding 125 °F (52 °C) having been observed in the desert area. Due to the primarily dry climate, large temperature swings often occur between day and night in less developed areas of the desert. The swings can be as large as 50 °F (28 °C) in the summer months. In the state’s urban centers, the effects of local warming result in much higher measured nighttime lows than in the recent past. Arizona has an average annual rainfall of 12.7 inches (323 mm), which comes during two rainy seasons, with cold fronts coming from the Pacific Ocean during the winter and a monsoon in the summer. The monsoon season occurs towards the end of summer. In July or August, the dewpoint rises dramatically for a brief period. During this time, the air contains large amounts of water vapor. Dewpoints as high as 81°F (27 °C) have been recorded during the Phoenix monsoon season. This hot moisture brings lightning, thunderstorms, wind, and torrential, if usually brief, downpours. It is rare for tornadoes and hurricanes to occur in Arizona, but there are records of both occurring. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia / Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. This was taken on my recent visit to Texas, at Tyler State Park. Going there again for the firt time in many years brought back so many wonderful memories…. In my youth I spent a lot of time at this park….it was my place of solitude….to write, draw, walk, or just sit and take in nature…..my escape to reality.

I went hiking at Big Basin and stopped along the way at a vista point to get this shot overlooking the park. The view was absolutely gorgeous, especially after having a summer filled with brown grassy hills and dying plants. Big Basin hosts one of the largest redwood forests in the San Francisco Bay Area, so a lot of these trees are redwoods, among other types.

Joshua Tree National Park is located in south-eastern California. Declared a U.S. National Park in 1994, it had previously been a U.S. National Monument since 1936. It includes over 1,234 mi² (3,196 km²) of land. A large part of the park is designated to wilderness area; some 914 mi² (2,367 km²). Straddling the San Bernardino County/Riverside County border, the park includes parts of two deserts, each an ecosystem whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation. Below 3,000 feet (900 m), the Colorado Desert encompasses the eastern part of the park and features natural gardens of creosote bush, ocotillo, and cholla cactus. The Little San Bernardino Mountains run through the southwest edge of the park. source: wikipedia

The Luxor is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It was one of the city’s first fully-themed megaresorts. Ground was broken for the Luxor in 1991, that same year construction began on the Treasure Island and the current MGM Grand. It has an Ancient Egyptian motif and contains a total of 4,407 rooms lining the interior walls of a hollow pyramid and contained within twin ziggurat towers that were built as later additions. The hotel is named after the city of Luxor (ancient Thebes) in Egypt, the site of the Valley of the Kings, Karnak and Luxor Temples, and scores of other pharaonic monuments but no pyramids. source: wikipedia

Bryce Canyon National Park is a national park located in southwestern Utah in the United States. Contained within the park is Bryce Canyon. Despite its name, this is not actually a canyon, but rather a giant natural amphitheater created by erosion along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. Bryce is distinctive due to its geological structures, called hoodoos, formed from wind, water, and ice erosion of the river and lakebed sedimentary rocks. The red, orange and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views to visitors. source: wikipedia

Of course all graffiti is bad especially when applied to trees in a very famous park in the country of the Philippines. But in this case it added a touch of realism and art at the same time.

These ancient live oaks have stood their ground for a long time, surviving hurricanes, intense heat, bitter cold, and every test that time can dish out. When I look at them, I’m filled with a sense of respect for them and encouraged to stand firm through my own trials.

I took this photos at 4000 feet up a mountain ….Mt. Baker volcano rises 3300 meters ( 10826.7 Feet ) above Vancouver. Any future eruption of Mt. Baker represents a potential hazard to Vancouver and the Lower Mainland area. Mt. Baker has been constructed by outpourings of lava and volcanic ash. A record of these past eruptions lies within the volcanic layers exposed at Sherman Crater near the summit of Mt. Baker. Sherman Crater is the site of small eruptions during the 1800s and discharges of volcanic gas during the 1970s. Mt. Baker continues to steam today. /

This is Chatsworth House in the Peak District, probably the most photographed scene ever of this place with the bridge, i wanted to do this in colour but it was a slightly misty day, and did not look right so i opted for the old sepia look ans added a touch of film grain. Hope you like it.
