  • A little homeless kitten in Vietnam. Please Keep Me / Hold me close and don’t let go; / I’m so scared to be alone. / I’ve been by myself for far too long, / And always had to be so strong. / Now I only want to rest; / And lay my head upon your chest. / Hold me close and don’t let go; / These wars I fight no one knows. / Now whisper how you love me, / Say it tender and so softly. / I am weary and soon will sleep, / But with you I no longer weep. / So hold me close and don’t let go, / And tell me now this is for keeps. • Taken in central Victoria, at Yandoit, during the drought.

  • I could not stop shooting in this spot. Everything was just glowing and so lush and beautiful. I felt like I was in Hawaii, not Illinois.

  • Definitely the most precarious and dangerous shot I took that day. Leaning over the edge of the waterfall at St. Louis Canyon in Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. The drop is 60 feet.

  • Camera: Canon 5D, Lens: Canon 17-40mm f4 L, Exposure: 1 sec / Aperture: f22, ISO 50, Focal length 17mm, / White Balance Mode: Shade A stream that feeds a bigger waterfall at Illinois Canyon in Starved Rock State Park. The sun was partially blocked by all the tree leaves, creating a spotty shaded effect.

  • Taken from the top of Starved Rock. Starved Rock State Park – Illinois – USA

  • Bald Eagle going after a fish on top of the ice. Some seagulls had gotten this fish on top of the ice only to have the eagle come along and get the prize. Starved Rock Lock and Dam – Illinois – USA Canon EOS 40D

  • A view that most people don’t see when visiting Starved Rock State Park. Most people view the waterfall at St. Louis canyon from the bottom lookin up. This is the top of the waterfall. Past that edge is a 60 foot vertical drop.

  • The Lippizan Stallions at the Georgia RenFen 26 April 09. The show was about to start, when they pulled all the blue curtains to the stalls together. This male decided he wanted to see the audience so he pushed the curtain out of his way. Fractalius Filter

  • The wispy waterfall of St. Louis canyon in Starved Rock State Park.

  • A whirlpool caught in a long exposure in a magical place called Illinois Canyon in Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. Camera: Canon 5D / Lens: Canon 24-70mm / Filter: Heliopan thin Polarizing filter / Aperture: f18 / Exposure: 30 seconds Not the type of image I could bracket to capture exactly the same and layer the two together. What I did is save the darker version of this and worked in Curves in Photoshop and lightened it up. Then opened both images up and layered them and removed the light areas by darkening with the eraser/brush tool at about 35% by removing the lighter layer until she looked pretty.

  • The lush, mossy surroundings of Ottawa Canyon in Illinois.

  • A closer view of Ottawa Canyon.

  • Location: Ottawa Canyon in Starved Rock State Park in Utica, Illinois To me this is what it is all about. I’ll give you a brief self analysis on this one. The corner on the left is dark. The underside of the canyon is dark. I could have made it brighter, but chose against it. / I don’t want every part of the image to be fully exposed. I don’t want every corner lit to match the rest of the image. It is the separation of light and dark to create a mood that I love. I am not always after it, but sometimes I get it, and when I do, I welcome it. Why ruin the mood of an image trying to make everything in the same light. Camera: Canon 5D / Lens: Canon 17-40mm / Filter: Heliopan Thin circular polarizer / Aperture: f22 / Iso: 50 / Shutter Speed: 5 seconds / Weather Conditions: Overcast and cloudy / Vehicle that got me here: 1996 Ford Ranger (just thought I’d throw that in for kicks) / Cost of getting the shot: PRICELESS.
