Worth going to the larger view – lots more stars. / I shot this in winter under a full moon at about midnight at Lake Eucumbene in the Snowy Mountains, Australia. This was my first shoot outside at night in winter. It was minus 5 degrees and when I got back home and my fingers started to thaw out I couldn’t believe the pain – Lesson 1 for winter night shots – wear mittens at the very least! / These trees were drowned along with a whole valley to create a man-made lake as part of a hydro scheme in the 1950s. They’ve resurfaced as a result of a drought we’ve been having for the last few years courtesy of global warming.

I love this background I created for another photo, but the children in it were not mine and I don’t have permission to put them on the web. / I found an old photo of my daughter so I have adapted the background to suit and added wings. I would welcome any (constructive)suggestions for improvement as I am fairly new to this. The photo of my daughter is someone else’s and the lilies are clip art I think. I found them in a folder on my computer. The gates are also part of a clip art image.

MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER Well actually it’s the moon but moon didn’t rhyme this shot taken on Saturday 18th July World Photo Walk Day. The shot is taken near Campbells Cove, Sydney Harbour just before dawn. The water was relatively still and the Ferryservice had not started yet to stir the waters. The building on the shoreline is the Hyatt. Equipment: Nikon D300, Sigma Lens 10-20mm Technique – 5 exposures bracketted, processed with photomatix

Best viewed large to see the startrails 15 X 30 second exposures (blended in PS so effectively a 7.5 minute exposure) of the clouds streaming over the Pinnacles in Gardens of Stone NP. Would have liked to have got more but it started to sleet. Really interesting the way the clouds ended up radiating out from where the moon just happened to be when I just happened to be there to shoot it. I find rather beautiful coincidences like that happen a lot with landscape photography – weird but I’m certainly not complaining. if you missed the first shot in this series it’s here Also curiously the colour balance averaged out across the 15 exposures so less blue looking sky than the first image. In that one I had to stick with the auto colour balance or the clouds went really muddy coloured. Always trade-offs with photography. Canon 1Ds Mk III / Tv: 30 secs / Av: f/3.5 / ISO: 800
