Taken 06-09-2008. Grabbed the camera and shot this without changing the settings from shooting earlier in the day duh and was really happy that the moon actually came out YELLOW! It was a gorgeous sky, then another thunderstorm rolled through…

Another shot taken at the Seymour Mountain Ski area. The icicles on the trees from a warm spell & then another freeze left these wonderful huge ice pieces hanging from the tree boughs. I used a 4 star filter to create the sparkles with the aide of the late afternoon sun. THIS WOULD MAKE A GREAT CHRISTMAS CARD!

Just back from a 4 day photography weekend based around the Braemar area in the highlands of Scotland. This one was taken on the Cockbridge to Tomintoul mountain pass on Sunday. EXIF data is as follows: / Date 02/11/08 @ 15:25pm / Samsung GX10 / ISO 100 / Exposure 1/20 / f22 / Focal Length 18mm / Circular Polariser / Tripod Mounted / Remote Shutter Post RAW shot processing was a basic cleanup and a slight adjustment to brightness – that’s all. The sun is how it was on the camera.

My husband and I have a star we look for every year, and every year it is there. I held the camera tight and held my breath, lol. The Apple tree in Silhouette…....a view that changes over the seasons has become a focal point for me in the evening as the sun sets…..it has a certain atmosphere hard to explain….but mostly it is a sense of PLACE…....i belong here…...and the tree is the sentinel of steadfastness in the landscape. My home….my sanctuary.

Scroll down for another image of this beautiful Cow Moose and her darling calf From my collection: / Emerquinox ~ The Spirit of Alaska ~ Alaska North Star Winter Scenics Emerquinox is a word I coined when I combined the words Emerge and Equinox. This magnificent Cow Moose and her young calf were photographed near North Pole Alaska, which is about a twenty minute drive from Fairbanks Alaska on Badger Road. Did you know more than one Moose is still Moose? Many Moose, or two Moose, or one Moose, it is always Moose. Just thought you would want to know that. :) I have many more images of this beautiful Cow Moose and her yearling calf as they permitted me to watch and photograph them for over an hour. Many of my viewers seem to perceive I am standing on the ground within arms length of this 1200+ lb Moose!! I wish for everyone to know and understand that I remained in my truck watching her with her adorable calf for well over an hour. And while she did approach me as I remained in my truck watching her, (with my engine idling and heater blowing as the temps were subzero!) once she decided I was no threat to her, she seemed as curious about me as I was about her and her darling calf! The Cows are very protective of their young, and the Bulls are aggressive and unpredictable as well. And I would advise everyone to never approach a Moose. She is a ‘resident’ Moose, and she and her calf live in the deep forest surrounding my home in the wilderness when I lived in Alaska near North Pole. She is wild, and certainly not tame, as someone asked. A Cow Moose will kill you if you come between her and her calves. Cows are generally not hunted, and she is simply accustomed to being around humans since she is one of several generations of Moose born in this area. With an abundance of Diamond Willow (their favourite) and other tender shoots along the roadways, and the remnants of summer gardens, they simply brush off the snow with their noses and browse. She has no need to migrate. There are many many more in this area. They are elusive however, and nocturnal for the most part, so it is always a thrill to see one! It is only in winter when one sees them struggling to survive the deep winter browsing during the “daylight” hours. And then too, in winter it is dark for so many hours so the night is extended! Most people think of Alaska as The Land of the Midnight Sun. That is true only for a short time in a very brief summer. In winter Alaska is The Land of Perpetual Darkness. The calf’s first winter is the most precarious. This calf is experiencing her first winter. I can see that she is a female calf by her fine feminine sex characteristics. The male calves are larger and masculine. During summer it is generally late evening, dusk, during the night and early morning when one sees the beautiful Moose browsing and foraging in the forests and along the rivers and roadways. ~ Sharon Mau The moose (Alces alces) is the world’s largest member of the deer family. The Alaska race (Alces alces gigas) is the largest of all the moose.
