The National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas in Staffordshire is a living tribute to the people of the last century and to reflect this over the past four years some 40,000 trees have been planted and monuments raised in memory of the armed forces, the Merchant Navy, the Police and Fire Service and the Civil Defence. Among the Veterans who have plots at the site are those linked to Dunkirk (the pictured helmet and rifle), Burma and Normandy Campaigns. The project also includes a Visitor Centre and the Millennium Chapel of Peace and Forgiveness which is the only one of its kind to be built to celebrate peace in the new millennium and reflect on previous conflict. The Chapel is the only place within the United Kingdom where the Act of Remembrance is observed on every day of the year. Visitors to the Chapel and surrounding areas are invited to stop in silence at 11am to remember those who have lost their lives in conflict.

The Peak District / Thor’s Cave is the most spectacular sight of the Manifold valley, dominating the central section of the valley. The rock in which it is set rears up out of the hillside like a giant fang with the cave entrance forming a hole in it ten metres in diameter, a sight which is clearly visible for several miles. Excavations have shown that the cave was occupied as long as 10,000 years ago and this occupation probably continued until Roman or Saxon times, making it one of the oldest sites of human activity in the Peak. Stone tools and the remains of a range now extinct animals were found within the cave. The cave can be reached quite easily from Wetton and is well worth a visit for a scramble inside or to climb onto the prow above the cave itself and admire the excellent view of the Manifold valley.

Pablo Ruiz Picasso (October 25, 1881 – April 8, 1973) was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. As one of the most recognized figures in twentieth-century art, he is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) and his depiction of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, Guernica (1937).(wikipedia.org). / Original painting was made by Sofia Youshi

Some images lend themselves to be converted into black and white, most notably portraits and pets. The effective use of isolated colour in monochrome images can be very eye catching and portray important information and emotions. A minimalist approach seems to work best and I think it works for this one of Hermione.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I’ve uploaded a video showing this image being drawn …
This is Billy. I visited our local SPCA, or our closest one (45 minutes from me). I like going there and seeing all the animals there but I am also sad about it. It is a very small facility, it is a dreary place too. The cat room is extremely small and dark. Too dark to really get any shots. The people that run it were kind of weirded out about me being there. The assistant told me she had never had anyone just “WANT” to take pictures. She said everyone has a reason. I told her the reason I had was to hopefully help them find homes and than I would assure they get the images I take. She was very cold to me about it so I didn’t really get a good chance to take shots. But the ones I did, saddened me. I was there about an hour and wanted to take them all, but had my eyes on probably 5 I would seriously love to take. And there was only 10-11 dogs there in all. There were probably 10 cages for the cats. 4 of them had mommies with babies in them…OHHHH how I wanted to take photos of them so much. They were so cute. There was one cat there, full grown, that wanted to come home with me as much as I could have taken him in a heart beat. He was so loving. I bent over to pet some kittens and I was next to his cage. Twice he let me know he wanted my attention by patting me on the head with is paw. LOL Anyhoo, this is Billy, billy is in need of a home so bad. He is such a loving animal. I liked this image because it really makes him look sad, even the goober in his eye looks like a tear. :) I received quit a few kisses and even a large hug from Billy. He was just coming in from being walked so I was able to get a better photo than this of him but I loved this one. / / / All proceed from this image will be donated to the SPCA / / Canon EOS 350D, Rebel XT / As Is / / / /> / / Please visit your local SPCA, Humane Society or PetFinders to find your next best friend! / / / / / / /
