  • Nikon D40, Nikkor 18-55mm lens The Jardin Botanique, in Montreal Canada, is located right beside this infamous structure and I couldn’t help myself. I understand after a few years of closure that the elevator is now functioning again, so I plan a trip to the top in the fall. Haven’t been up there in years… The Olympic Stadium (French: Stade olympique) is a multi-purpose stadium in Montreal, Quebec, Canada built as the main venue for the 1976 Summer Olympics. It subsequently became the home of Montreal’s professional baseball and Canadian football teams. Since the Montreal Expos relocated to Washington, D.C. in 2004 (and prior, the Montreal Alouettes second departure in 1997), the stadium has had no main tenant, and with a history of financial and structural problems, is largely seen as a white elephant. It currently serves as a 56,040-seat multipurpose facility for special events (e.g. concerts, trade shows) during non-winter months, and continues to serve as a venue for Grey Cup games hosted by the Montreal Alouettes. La tour de Montreal, the tower incorporated into the base of the stadium, is the tallest inclined tower in the world at 175 metres, and is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers. / -Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Top Ten placement in the Buildings- Old and New challenge for the Nikon D40 group December 2009 / Top Ten placement in The Best Shot of Public Building challenge for That One Great Shot group, October 2009 / Featured in Architecture anbd Cityscapes group April 2009 / Featured in Unique Building of The World group February 2009 / Featured in the Architecture and Cityscapes photography group February 2009

  • This is a tongue-in-cheek painting of the Greenpoint stadium in Cape Town. There was a lot of controversy around the building of this stadium, I tried to capture the joy of the people who would be watching the games, yet there was some debate about the venue- various environmentalists contested the venue, saying that it was not ec0-friendly. I think Nature will triumph in the end- that is why I painted a laughing dolphin looking on!

  • The Olympiastadion (Olympic Stadium) is a sports stadium in Berlin. There have been two stadia on the site: the present facility, and one that was built for the aborted 1916 Summer Olympics. Both were designed by members of the same family, the first by Otto March and the second by his son Werner March. The current Olympiastadion was originally built for “Hitler’s” Summer Olympics in 1936 in the southern part of the Reichssportfeld (today Olympiapark Berlin). During World War II, the area suffered little damage. After the war, the United Kingdom military occupation used the northern part of the Reichssportfeld as its headquarters until 1994. Aside from its use as an Olympic stadium, the Olympiastadion has a strong footballing tradition. Historically, it is the ground of club Hertha BSC Berlin. It was also used for 3 matches in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. It hosted six matches, including the final, in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and was renovated for that reason. The German Cup final match is held each year at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

  • Now sadly dismantled, B of the Bang was Britain’s tallest sculpture and was commissioned to mark the success of the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Located next to the City of Manchester Stadium, in Beswick, Manchester, the statue was designed by Thomas Heatherwick and unveiled by sprinter Linford Christie in 2005. It takes its name from a quotation of Christie in which he said that he started his races not merely at the ‘bang’ of the starting pistol, but at ‘The B of the Bang’
