  • Looking out from a window towards the surrounding area from the fortress. The fortress was constructed by king Bhuvanekabahu I during his reign 1273-1284 in Yapahuwa, Sri Lanka. The stone carvings and other works of art during this period changed from the classical naturalistic form to a stylistic form.

  • a frangipani flower, Sri Lanka

  • Send a SRI LANKA postcard or hang Sri Lankan beauty on your wall. What about a waterfall?

  • Send a powerful greeting with this Sri Lanka card.

  • Share the power and passion of the sea with this Sri Lanka card.

  • Photo of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy, Sri Lanka. / Send someone Buddhist blessings with this or just boast with your trip to this historical city if you’ve actually been there.

  • I took this shot in Sri Lanka. My hand went straight for my camera when I saw it. I love how I got it perfectly focused and the fact that its just such a nice heartwarming shot, I guess… It was a total fluke, and the monkeys stayed just long enough for me to take the shot. / ——- / Nr. Habarana, Sri Lanka.

  • I got this shot, like pretty much all of my photos, on holiday in Sri Lanka armed with an Olympus DSLR, with a wonderful preset mode for sunsets. I just altered the exposure to make it perfect and voila!

  • If you’ve been there, this is the perfect postcard to boast with it: Mount Lavinia Hotel, Sri Lanka, more than 200 years old and previously home to the British Governour.

  • A collage of various landscape shots taken by me, to show the diversity of Sri Lankan landscapes. Check out the other experiments belonging to this series: / SUNSETS, SUNSETS0, SAILTHESEVENSEAS, SAILTHESEVENSEAS0

  • Monkey in a tree. I have just found out from ApeArt’s comment that it’s a Hanuman Langur, (which is a type of Gray Langur, apparently). Thank you very much! Anyway, I like to give some information on my pictures, so here is some wikipedia sourced information: / “In Sri Lanka, Gray Langurs are generally known as Wanduras. / They are largely gray, with a black face. In Indian mythology, this is because Hanuman, a monkey warrior, burnt his hands and face trying to rescue Lord Rama’s wife. Males are up to 75 cm long, and females 65 cm. Langurs from the southern part of their range are smaller than those from the north.” Yala National Park, Sri Lanka. Sounds about right.

  • This is a Macro shot of a native flower in Sri Lanka

  • These are the tea estates of the central highlands of Sri Lanka

  • These dome structures are found all over Sri Lanka and are said to hold the relics of sacred persons. They are often the destination of many a religious pilgrimage. This Dagoba is in Mihintale, the place where Buddhism originated in Sri Lanka. We visited this site on a scorching hot day and to get to this point required a walk up 1,000 or so granite steps – bare foot.

  • I was heading back from visiting one of the Buddhist temples on the top of one of Kandy’s picturesque hills, and asked if the young monks were happy to be in this photo. They agreed and very quickly, in anticipation of the photo to be taken, adjusted their robes and themselves for the best pose. Proceeds of this photo will be donated to a charitable trust.

  • Pollunwara, Sri Lanka. An absolutely amazing site full of ruins and then more ruins… / This was just one of a few hundred shots I took here, and I just hope in looks slightly artistic, not just a holiday snap. I think this was a Hindu ruin, with the Buddhist ones further along the lake.

  • Sigiriya, Sri Lanka. This was half way on our climb up some of the scariest stairs I had ever been on, clinging to the vertical rock face of Sigiriya rock. I will try to update this with a more beautiful description, perhaps a bit of travel writing, at another stage, but for now, here’s the shot on a plateau half way up.

  • Phra Sri Ratana Chedi is in the Grand Palace Complex in Bangkok

  • Taken on top of Sigiriya Rock, Sri Lanka… / Only just found it and upped the contrast a bit to upload it- well over a year since I went to Sri Lanka! But I can still remember it, and this shot doesn’t do that view justice. The light was getting a bit low for photographs (and I had no tripod :( ), as we had climbed the rock during the evening to escape the heat of the day, so I couldn’t really get the camera to pick it up like I would have liked. Uploaded what I did get anyway lol

  • I couldn’t think of an apt title for this one… / Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Kandy, Sri Lanka. / YES I remembered the location. So nice to get so close to these wonderful creatures – yes, they were technically captive, but notice that it’s an orphanage- set up to raise orphaned baby elephants. Many are released into the wild, some are kept on I think as part of a breeding program in order to ensure to keep up Asia’s dwindling elephant population – an extremely important job. Despite strongly enforced laws on elephant shooting, it still happens. However, here it is important to look at both sides of that… herds of elephants wander the plains, often perfectly harmless. But if they come across a village and find there’s food around, then they could destroy fences, releasing livestock, damage houses… destroy people’s livelihoods, crops, food supplies… so what can a villager do but shoot them? It’s a war for survival. On both sides. / This one meanwhile was raised far away from that, and we got to see the all being taken to the river for a bath. A lot of elephants. And even with my small lenses I could get close enough to take closeups like this… A fantastic experience. Still, I expect the guy next to me with the foot long lens had it even better…

  • From the play ‘Gods in War’ about Hindu gods and their relationships – directed and performed by a friend. Dance, film and theatre promotional photography is really fun.

  • Ambergris Caye, Belize ‘08, pen on watercolor paper, all freestyle as usual this is a baby sea grape tree, almost actual size. i drew it after i slept on the beach a little bit on my way home from the night club Big Daddy’s. i actually didn’t have such a great time, i got a little too drunk and thought i might have made a fool of myself, and i was thinking, i’m not going back to the club for awhile after this.
