I think this guy must be quite comfortable with human beings…though I’ve not seen it quite this comfortable before!! Last Friday on a hike to Chicaque Park, we noticed this squirrel hanging around as he was busy looking for seeds and then burying them near the waterfalls. After doing a few rounds he got a bit braver and came up close to us and noticed (or his sniffer was working overtime) the bag of peanuts in Julio’s backpack. Then standing straight up it looked like was actually begging for something. But before we could get the peanuts out of the bag this squirrel scrambled up Julio’s leg and onto his back and started scratching at where the peanuts were. After getting them out he seemed just quite content to just sit there on Julio’s shoulder as he enjoyed this unexpected lunch. And when they didn’t come fast enough he actually dove into the bag and helped himself!!

Well most of the squrrels around here are red but I have never noticed this one with a strip down his back. Found in Duluth MN
