As a child, my treasured stuffed animal (as all children tend to have) was a little squirrel who went on every kind of adventure with me, and my favorite story was about a lil’ squirrel named “Miss Suzy” – written by Miriam Young, and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. I love the thought of the tiny leaf-boat capturing the attention of the denizens of the pond as it passes by en route to a wonderous place. January 10th, 2009 – WOW!! Red squirrels are an endangered species in the UK, their numbers threatened by disease, grey squirrels and habitat loss. There are still a few places where they are to be found, one of which is the Lake District where this extremely tame fellow lived with a few others in the garden of the house where we were staying. They all seemed to spend their time collecting nuts from the bird table and burying them around the garden. They certainly had no fear of humans and would join us at the garden table if there was a chance of a nut to be grabbed. Canon 40D with 10-22mm EFS lens at 22mm; ISO800 f4.5 1/400

I got several snapshots, from which I drew the picture. / This is Peter and Wendy, two of my orphan wildlife babies.
