  • Squeaky Beach – Wilsons Promontory (Victoria, Australia)

  • I had just been hiking for two days down at Wilsons Promontory and decided to catch the sunset at Pillar Point before heading home. Two days before 140mm of rain had fallen creating many new creeks I had not seen before. I found this one on the way back to the car after photographing a spectacular sunset from Pillar Point. By the time I reached this spot the sun was long gone but this little rivulet caught my attention. It was so dark that a thirty second exposure was required but I loved how this heightened the blue of the sky reflected in the water while adding a slightly blurred effect to the clouds. Have had one poster sale on rb of this work. For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery. 10% of all profits go to the Wilderness Society .

  • This shot was taken on Squeaky Beach at Wilsons Promontory on what I considered to be a fairly flat sunset. I had tried a few other shots on the rock platforms at the other end of the beach with limited results and as it was now getting very dark I was on my way back to the car. There was a limited orange glow on the horizon which wasn’t particularly arresting but from previous experience I thought the camera might ‘see’ the scene better than the naked eye. Large area’s of black silhouette in a frame I generally don’t like so I tried to balance that with the sea and sky with a fairly long zoom. The exposure was thirty seconds long, flattening the waves and intensifying the light and colours (velvia helps too). The end result was my favourite shot of the trip. • as always please click on the image to see greater detail and a larger view The crystal clear baby blue waters of Squeaky beach glisten under a summer sun..paradise is found ! Pillar point spans it’s rocky headland out like a gift of land reaching to those seeking refuge on the islands. Many people I know from Qld or the like, often find it near impossible to fathom that places of such incredible beauty lie outside of their own state..yet alone in Victoria ! It is no wonder the Prom is the 2nd oldest NP in Australia (after Royal NP in Sydney)and the fact that it lies some 200+km from a city says it all to me…even over 100yrs ago it was realised how incredibly special it is. / / Fuji G617 – no cropping,no stitching. • This beach is called Squeaky Beach as the sand squeaks when you walk on it from the pure white quartz sand… just beauitiful. Wilsons Promontory is one of my favorite places in Oz :-)

  • Christmas time kitty

  • For Christmas this year, Sneakers received a very nice hamburger toy that squeaks. She couldn’t have cared less, lol. She takes very good care of her toys and doesn’t eat, or wreck them by pulling out the stuffing. She does love squeaky toys though. Her rescue story has been told before, of the night she wandered to our door, walked in, sat in the recliner, slept on the bed that night, and said “I’m home”. Where she came from no one knows. She’s the love of our life!

  • Just outside of Yosemite Dec 2008

  • A recent trip to the ‘prom’ just before christmas and the place was looking at it’s pristine paradise best ! / I didn’t go there for photographic purposes this trip. So I took this quick hand held pan during the middle of the day after a swim just because the water and whole place looks so stunning !
