this ancient analouge image is the Sydney skyline in 1982 from the WatchTower building that overlooks Redfern station. Now days it’s all multi million dollar apartments but it was a very different city back then. The graffitti is actually the name of a punk band that was squatting in the building at the time. But the image could also be read as a comment and observation on some of the goings on around here in bubbleland. Or maybe I just posted it because Muscular Teeth tells me he likes my apocalyptic images….... the interpretation is open….....

have ever wondered how hard it must be for punks and goths during the hot australian summers? there is quite possibly nothing so uncool in whole world as a hot punk…... this ancient analouge image was shot sometime in the middle of the summer of 1982 in a derelict building that a punk band called ‘The Real Fucking Idiots’ was squatting in.

This is a commemorative tee that exudes all of the flavours associated with experimentalist ravetronica and Squat. many years ago I knew some punk musicans called The Real Fucking Idiots and they all lived in a derelict squat in Redfern… and in that huge sprawling messy space were lots of interesting little snippets of what made up a normal life for them….. like this image of a grubby abandoned punk baby doll pinned to a fuse box with a number of used syringes….none of those living there were diabetic either so draw your own inferences….. this image was subsquently used as the main focus of a particularly iconic poster that was used at the time to take a rather large stick to the Australia Council for the Arts….. the ability of the dispossesed to find a voice outside the mainstream and to be articulate and powerful is something I’ve never doubted…...just depends on how you look at things I guess….. anyway….. smack smack your dead sister dear but the echo of that time lingers on…. / . / . / . /

another idle observation from a derelict inner city squat inhabited at the time by the ratty brilliant doomed and occasionally quite demented band called The Real Fucking Idiots….. shot a very long time ago in Sydney before it aquired it’s shiny city status…. it goes with the image I just uploaded called drug doll and another image that has been here for a little while called jesus died….. it was a time and place… it was real and it was unreal and it’s echo remains…. time passes and time stands still…. fuck art let’s just live / . / . / . /
