The ruins of the Redcliff Radar Station. All the buildings are now crumbling and in ruin. The station has been abandoned since 1961. Radar operators in the AC&W Squadron tracked the movements of aircraft sighted and passed speed, height and direction information to a Direction Centre (DC) and fighter interceptor squadrons. Fighter aircraft could be airborne in minutes after an alarm was given, and they closed in on unidentified planes by means of direction provided by the radar operators. Another of the Red Cliff functions was furnishing navigational aid to friendly aircraft operating in the area. What we need is a natty fella with a smart car who is happy to stay in the background and a rootin tootin high kicking piece of skirt with legs that go on and on and on and on to do the fighting and kicking of badguy ass! The job description called for just two people! They were Red Bubble’s finest the Vanman and MissT. A couple of examples spy vs spy and red bubbler madvlad click links above In 1906, Vitagraph released the first animated film in the United States, Humorous Phases of Funny Faces, by cartoonist James Stuart Blackton. It featured a series of faces, letters, and words being drawn. This rudimentary foundation encouraged other cartoon pioneers, including Emil Cohl and Winsor McCay. Cohl produced Drame Chez Les Fantoches (A Drama in Fantoche’s House) (1908), a film more like modern classics, both funny and with a well-developed plot. McCay’s Little Nemo (1911), the first fully animated film, was based on his Newspaper comic strip. His Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) was the first to use frame-by-frame animation, which produced fluid motion. Gertie also initiated fascination with a central character. In the 1910s, animated cartoons were also being produced as series. John Randolph Bray had success with a number of them. Bray and other innovators developed ways of speeding up the drawing process using translucent paper, which enabled quicker drawing. The decade also witnessed the rise of the cell animation process and other important advances. Like early motion pictures, the cartoons were silent. Various methods of portraying speech were used, from balloons to dialogue on the screen, sometimes confusing the audience. In addition, the cartoonists lacked the resources to focus on story continuity. Often the cartoonist did all the work individually or with a small staff. Inspired by early Marathon concept art, in this piece I have evoked the shadowy, industrial back alleys in the slums of a futuristic utopian city. The character is mysterious, looming ominously from the fog with sabotage and subterfuge in mind. Created from various pencil thumbnails and sketches, and refined with Photoshop painting and textures from my personal library!
