  • So you see art, for me, is always a progression. Occasionally that movement ends me up in the proximity of where I intended to go, but often it lands me in a location so foreign to my initial plans, that I will look at what’s said and done, and not realize it as something I created. This was one of those trips. I can’t really tell you how I got here (said the driver on Ambien when he got pulled over), but it began as “Contest Announcement As Art.” You know, one of those quirky inspirations which seeks to combine things not only completely different from one another, but often contradictory in sheer nature itselves? Anyway, it was one of those, and I wanted it to mix art with directed writing as to produce something all three visually appealing, stimulating of mind, and funny – it was to be a mock advertisement for an art and literature contest. So, I thought of some clever stuff, got to work with Photoshop, and three hours later this appeared. It was like waking from a dream, but I was like, “hey, that’s a cool picture” and the rest is history. It’s like a gift, those divergent pathways in the artistic process, sometimes they just carry you for free.

  • This work is about an arrival of spring. The yellow-golden color symbolizes warm sun in spring, which is spreading into dark color, that is meant to be long close out winter. A fairly is goddess of nature who is busy producing life of spring, that is symbolized by butterflies.

  • The jaguar is a near threatened species and its numbers are declining. Threats include habitat loss and fragmentation. While international trade in jaguars or their parts is prohibited, the cat is still regularly killed by humans, particularly in conflicts with ranchers and farmers in South America. Although reduced, its range remains large; given its historical distribution, the jaguar has featured prominently in the mythology of numerous indigenous American cultures, including that of the Maya and Aztec. / (from Wikipedia) /

  • Sprint! is one image from a series called The Riders that was exhibited at The Centre for Creative Photography in Adelaide (March 2008) and twice in 2009 – at the Epson Gallery at Photographic Wholesalers in Hutt Street, Adelaide and in at the Nexus Gallery in Bellingen NSW as part of the Sibling Rivalry show. The series was shot on Kodak color infrared film. The distinctive colours and grain are characteristic of the film. The motion blur was captured in-camera by using camera panning and slow shutter speeds – ranging between 1/15th and 1/2 second. A 28mm wide angle lens further added to the distortion and impression of speed. The camera was a vintage (early ‘80s) Pentax K1000. Digital manipulation was limited to minor contrast correction and dust removal post scanning.
