This is an abstract image taken at the edge of a thermal spring in the West Thumb geyser basin in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. While the image appears to not contain any living thing, the colors themselves are in fact a product of the microscopic organisms called Thermophiles which thrive at extremely high temperatures. When visiting Yellowstone, you will see different veins of colors surrounding the fumaroles, geysers and thermal pools. The various colors in these mats are different types of Thermophiles which thrive at specific temperatures or have preferences for alkaline, acidic, or sulphiric enviroments. The enviroment determines the type of Thermophile that lives there and this diversity creates the colors you see. The color in this image is exactly as it was taken by my camera. It is not a macro image. At the top right, the turquoise color is the very edge of the thermal pool, the white border is mineral deposits and the brown and yellow and orange colors are the Thermophile living in a mat surrounding the pool. / This image has sold as a laminated print and a matted print 3 times through RedBubble. /

DIGITAL PORTRAIT PAINTING – PHOTO PAINTING SERVICES Apple Blossom Chickadee has been nominated for the prestigous Pay it Forward Group by JackyP. This is what she said about your image / “.this is a particular favourite of mine and always makes me smile :) The image seems to sum up the arrival of spring with the lovely blossom and little chickadee. Renee puts a lot of time and love into her work and the results are just pure bliss!! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / Thank you so very much Jacky! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / Featured in Painted-Digitally – February 25, 2009 / Featured in Cards: Best of your Best – February 2, 2009 / Featured in Country Bumpkin August 6, 2009 This art started out as a photograph of a black-capped chickadee sitting on a barren branch. After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. I hope this image inspires you to dream of Spring :) / / Lavender Finch / / Fine Art Gallery / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.
