Hi Bubblers! / I have been so aware of the quiet excitement of bubblers in the northern hemisphere over the promise of spring! You have had a pretty long winter, and it is obvious that a lot of you are impatient for it to end! / Well, spare a small though for us bubblers here in Aussie! We are on the brink of winter (although at the moment we are enjoying the wonderful colours of autumn). Now I KNOW we don’t suffer the devastating cold that you do, but some of us shrink from the gloom of dark cloudy days and piercing southerly winds!! And while the only wild life that hibernates here are the snakes, my energy levels seem to be insisting that I should prepare for hibernation!! / Don’t think that I’m jealous (although maybe there is a tinge of envy), I really am delighted that the crocuses are lifting their sweet little heads to sniff out the weather, and that soon all of the early bulbs will be splashing colour over the palettes of you lives. And those special tints of new green will soon be gracing the winter roughened trees! / And what about the exquisite scents of blossoms wafting out to enchant the bees? / Ah, northern bubblers, what other season promises mankind so much? / Changed my mind! I am VERY VERY jealous!!!

I have just added a calendar to my site. It looks really good. I must buy one for myself! The photos, like the title says, are of Flowers and Foliage. All the photos were taken in South Australia and it even includes one plant, the clivia, which we grew and is in our backyard at the ‘Chateau’ – as our unit is affectionately known. The pictures are somewhat conventional for my usual style but generally flowers and foliage speak for themselves and fiddling with their beauty often diminishes it. However, the unusual angles and perspectives should add a freshness to the genre. I hope you have a look and enjoy my take on the world of Flowers and Foliage. Cheers / Harvey

Two features in one day, and me not knowing much about flowers or trees! Thanks again to Kalaryder and Skyhorse for featuring my ever-getting-bigger plum tree. It’s the pride of my back yard and I just want to see it grow and grow! Now if there could be a way to keep the blossoms awhile longer…:)

Leon my husband, and I have been very busy weeding, slashing and clearing dead wood for about four weeks now. We enjoyed some wonderful rain in July and it is amazing to see new shoots coming along the branches on seemingly dead gum trees. We leave them at least a season during the drought because we know if there is enough rain they will shoot again. Amazing trees. Unfortunately with two previously red hot summers and six years of drought we have lost a lot of shrubs and trees. We live in a low rainfall area as it is and for the last two years our creek hasn’t run and last year the Dam was very low and empty by the beginning of December. The heat of the paddocks is radiant and it always make me think of people in the Outback waiting for rains to come. So far this month is drying out much to quickly and we are concerned that the warm days are a forerunner of another very hot season ahead. The rain that usually falls in August isn’t falling. We too have to be very mindful of Fires, hence the clearing at this time of year. We just keep on trying and plant new tube stock of trees every year and new shrubs (water wise) in the garden. There hasn’t been as many small birds so far this spring and we are missing the white plumed honey eaters. Our biggest delight is a pair of Superb Blue Wrens, the female is now nesting so it will be hard work for the pretty male. We have been here for 22 years and now that more people have moved into the area on hobby farms and planted shrubs and trees the bird population has increased overall so hopefully our Wren population will multiply with the shrubs we have planted that they prefer.

Hi everyone, Spring has sprung in the Highlands. Everything is looking lovely. All the trees in succession are dressing up in their new and brightest celebration frocks & ballgowns & the colourful parrots each with their unique calls, visit to feast. The bees, our rare, precious bees hum in the warm sun. ‘The sound of the turtle-dove is heard in our land.’ (from Song of Songs, OT) The unique music of the turtle-dove or crested pidgeon is lovely as they sparkle with luminous green & purple jewels on their wings. And the soft ‘make-up’ of their soft downy feathers is of subtle pinks and greys. Even the contrary winds that blow the blossoms away, serve to disperse the tiny pollen grains to propegate their kind & continue the generations. Ahh God’s praise is everywhere as the psalms declare & ‘He gave us eyes to see them and lips that we might tell how great is God Almighty who has made all things well’. So wrote the author of the Hymn, ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Creatures Great and Small.’ I can’t think of her name at present. I would simply add ‘and He gave us hearts & minds to appreciate them as well’. Only a Sovereign Mind with such appreciation of beauty, of His own, would think to share with us such gifts as appreciation in our hearts. Just some thoughts. Kind regards to all and God bless, / Bron
