7am and it is raining at Three Springs. Our first spring rain and needed and welcomed. To live in the moment is to live. To feel the joy of this rain. I know I will die but for this moment I am alive. I truly live when I am without fear of death or futile desire to transcend it. Each moment is precious. Each moment passes. It was good to start the day with meditation. What a luxury.

  • On the second weekend of November 2008 a group of Bubblers wandered into the town of Mannum, on the Mighty Murray River. Most of them were South Aussies, with one supagroovy Bubbler from Tassie. We had a total of 20 including the 3 Bubblers who visited from very very early Saturday morning until late that night. The really wonderful and friendly Bubblers who attended were Photoj, Danni, Jim, Elphonline, Beautiful Valley, Suzanne, Patapping, Mtapping, Bombamermaid, Tamarama, Bill, PrincessBren and AndyGii, plus the adoring family members that tagged along out of pure love! Not one to wake easily, I didn’t get up before the birds to take photos of the sun waking up. Most of the others did though (that’s dedication for you). / I’d say thousands (altogether) of photos were taken of various old cottages, leanto’s which looked like Joliffe created them, steam driven paddleboats, local wildlife (and tamelife… Mum Possom, her baby and her friend all seemed to enjoy that banana!!), sunrises, sunsets, water, clouds, people sitting, people standing, people eating, people chatting (about cameras!! Surprise surprise!!) and of course, people taking photos! And loads more things too!! My budding photographer didn’t want to know about the camera until we were packing up. He saw the tripod (that I hardly ever use) and spent ages playing with the various bits on it. He then decided he wanted to actually take some photos, not just play with the tripod!! Good thing I emptied the memory card first, or he wouldn’t have been able to take any! What else? I’ve found that not only do I have to save for a digital SLR, but I have to save for a Christmas in July AND a bubbler holiday on a houseboat!! How awful!! I’ll have to wait until after March or April to decide if I can do them both or not… well after Christmas! I’ve got it all bookmarked in Safari though ;D I didn’t get any painting or drawing done, but I did come home so relaxed that I felt really weird. I had no idea what the strange calm feeling was until I was chatting (bragging) to Belladonna on the phone and she said I sounded so relaxed! So thank you everyone for helping me become relaxed!!!! I hope it lasts longer than just a day ;D Thank you, all of you, for such a wonderful weekend!! / xx / GG

So many beautiful blooms were entered in this challenge – I wish many of them could have won also! Thank you to those who were kind enough to vote for my iris watercolor! An interesting story – It was lost sixteen years ago in a move and only about six weeks ago, when my husband brought in a box from the garage, did it reappear. I’m so happy to have the original back again! – Pat

  • Lying in red stars with lovely LittleHelen...
    by Holly Ringland

There’s something about March… all over the world, it is the season of change… spring… autumn… whether seeds are twitching in dark earth with the sensation of new beginnings, or leaves are turning crimson and decorating the earth in fallen red stars, change is on the wind in March wherever you are. You can taste it. So it was that this time last year, in March, my fingertips were twitching with the sensation of somethin’-a-brewin’... I’d had enough of my imagination lying dormant in an ambiguous yearning with a hunger for something that I just could not identify. I’d had enough of scribbling in margins, I wanted more. So I went where all good detectives go to find the answers – Google. And after joining a few writing centres, signing up for newsletters and entering a few pieces in competitions, I stumbled upon Red Bubble. I joined immediately, ga-ga over the never-ending pots of paint and albums of photographs… and words! Writers, writers everywhere. I was instantly greedy… devouring words with shameless manners. My hunger started to abate as I took my fill… and one of the first delectable morsels I came across was none other than LittleHelen. I skipped and hopped and wriggled with glee through the imagery of her scrumptious mouth-watering heart and then took my time unwrapping her words – she will forever have a field of tulips all her own in my soul for being the woman who introduced me to Good Morning Girl, one of my favourite treasures. I wrote to her immediately and thus began one of the moons in my sky revolving around the glorious light that is Ms Hells Bells. Three seasons later, it’s March again. In my world, the leaves are turning scarlet, the crispness of change is in the air… and when Helen recently inducted me into her Hottest 100, I realised how much change this ruby-coloured bubbly place has brought to my life in the last twelve months. To go from marvelling at Helen’s sassiness and creativity afar to being one of her interview subjects (a delight to experience) was just another humble reminder of how rewarding wearing Red Bubble boots can be. So, I have to say, with all my cards on the table and my heart open and bare, to all of you bubbly lovely pretties who have spent moments of your time reading my words and responding to my work, propelling me further and further along my writing tightrope, thank you for being part of my year of change. A bouquet of ruby stars for you all. And Hells Bells, for believing in me and cultivating me and encouraging me to grow and love and roar, and for being so intuitive and creative… and interviewing me… you gorgeous lioness… thank you.

  • UPDATE: Spring

Just a quick update for those who have expressed an interest in mustang baby Spring’s progress: Spring got her bandages off, this morning. In addidtion to the deep wounds on her lower forelegs, she had serious swelling in her hind ankles. These were wrapped with a hot compress of Epsom Salts, and remained wrapped until this morning. We had intended to change the dressings, but when the bandages were removed, it was determined that they would be better allowed to dry. When we removed the bandages on the hind legs, the swelling was completely gone! So Spring is barefoot, now … and has moved into her outdoor compound, with the mare, Annie. The foal is doing great – getting a little meat on her bones, and some SPRING in her steps. Her forelegs are still weak, and she needs some help to get up, but if her progress continues as it has so far, she will be fit as a fiddle in a few days. Again, I thank everyone who has sent their kind words of encouragement, and positive vibes for Spring’s recovery! Oh! —I almost forgot - Spring’s adoption is just a matter of paperwork. She will soon be officially Ray’s adoptee, under BLM “supervision” for a period of one year. They will inspect her self and her habitat periodically. If you are interested and would like to know more email me at reddoorcreative@bigpond.com with Spring has Sprung in the subject line and I will forward you an application form.
