Black Throated Sparrows nest. Photo based mixed medium image.
This is the spring counterpart to my other Barred owl called Winter’s watchman Taken in the same general area in April 2005. You can tell he was just in the swampy water below, either bathing or chasing after a snake to eat, by the wetness present on his feathers.
Pretty purple pansies and a multi-colored dragonfly. A great garden design perfect for Spring.
Spring in New Zealand and millions of lambs fill the fields. This cute little one was taking a scenic stroll along the rocky Kaikoura coastline.
One thing about Logan, Utah, is that the weather can change on a dime. One minute the sun is shining, the next, it clouds over and rains/snows/hails, then it’s back to sun again. Spring is really unpredictable, and I love it!! Here is a view of the Wellsville mountains about 6 miles from me, and the Bear River National Wildlilfe Refuge with the addition of my lovely Black Swan and a few other extras, of course… ;-)
“That little bird has chosen his shelter. Above it are the stars and the deep heaven of worlds. Yet he is rocking himself to sleep without caring for tomorrow’s lodging, calmly clinging to his little twig, and leaving God to think for him.” ~Martin Luther I love chickadee’s. We have them here where I live and they are energetic little acrobats. They come to my bird feeders all the time. If you sit real still they will come close to you. I had them sit on my drawing pad last summer while I drew them. They were being my feathered models.

Buckeye Butterfly enjoying a warm day in November.
I love the beauty of these Buckeye Butterflies. Only God could create something this beautiful.
This fella didn’t seem to mind the cold – this is the first time I saw him out and about – he was more evasive in the summer weather (I use the term “summer” loosely as I’m still waiting for summer 2008 to start!) ;o) American Mink at the British Wildlife Centre, December 2008. DIGITAL PORTRAIT PAINTING – PHOTO PAINTING SERVICES Apple Blossom Chickadee has been nominated for the prestigous Pay it Forward Group by JackyP. This is what she said about your image / “.this is a particular favourite of mine and always makes me smile :) The image seems to sum up the arrival of spring with the lovely blossom and little chickadee. Renee puts a lot of time and love into her work and the results are just pure bliss!! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / Thank you so very much Jacky! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / Featured in Painted-Digitally – February 25, 2009 / Featured in Cards: Best of your Best – February 2, 2009 / Featured in Country Bumpkin August 6, 2009 This art started out as a photograph of a black-capped chickadee sitting on a barren branch. After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. I hope this image inspires you to dream of Spring :) / / Lavender Finch / / Fine Art Gallery / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST
Featured in The Birds – Feb. 15, 2009 / I can almost feel it. Spring is JUST around the corner. It’s such an exciting time in Canada after a long and cold winter. The lilac trees bloom putting forth the sweetest scent and the hummingbirds return to our property after a long migration. Yes, Spring will be here before we know it. I can’t wait! I spent countless HOURS last summer, sitting in a lawn chair, ever so patiently waiting to try & capture one of these little darlings in flight. They are only 7-9 cm long. While hovering their wings beat 55x/s, 61x/s when moving backwards, and at least 75x/s when moving forward! / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Processing info: / This image started out with 3 photograph layers (the lilac background image, a female ruby-throated hummingbird, and the tail from a different photo of the same bird). I took all of the original images with my Canon DSLR. After removing the background around the original bird photos I merged all of the layers in PhotoShop. I digitally painted/blended the entire image in Corel Painter X using the Impasto Depth Smear brush at 30% opacity. I cloned out a distracting branch in the upper left corner and performed blend # 2 work on the main lilac blooms, hummingbird, and the largest leaves using grainy blender 10 brush at 38% opacity. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST
This is a sign of spring for me, especially now, when some Robins have started to stay year round in Colorado. This picture was taken at Crown Hill Park, near Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The park belongs to Jefferson County Open Space, and they have a wildlife sanctuary in one corner of the park, where I got this image, in February 2008.

This is a mixed media collage’ piece I did a few months ago. I uploaded the original one today in my watercolor and ink portfolio. Then this evening I started playing around with the work in GIMP and this is the result. It is simply an digitally inverted version of the original and I really like it! I entitled it “Inverted Seasons” because the original is entitled, “Frosted Windows”. The inverted version looks more spring like through the “windows”, thus the title. The seasons, as well as the art work are inverted. I think the 2 versions would look great printed and hung together! The original version was featured by Red Bubble on the home page features!
A Chinook Salmon (Spring Salmon) makes its way up the Cowichan River to its spawning grounds. The chinook salmon migrates as much as 965 -1900 plus kms( 600-1200 miles) upriver between July and November. The female digs a hollow by lying on her side and thrashing the tail up and down forming a small hole where she lays her 4,242-13, 619 eggs. After laying her eggs, she dies within a few days to 2 weeks. This species utilizes about 260 streams in British Columbia, which is fewer than do other species. “PHOTO INFORMATION” Taken on Oct 18/09 at 11:23 am on east side of Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. / Taken in Raw Adobe RGB, and aperture priority. / Camera; Canon 40D / Lens; Canon EF 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM Lens. / Tripod; Manfrotto including joystick head. / Taken at 1/800, f/5, +2/3 EV, 220 mm, man col bal, iso 500. / Slight histogram adjustment in Lightroom 2.5, slight adjustment in shadow/highlight and lab sharpening via later lightness channel and unsharpmask ( amount 30 Radius 2, Threshold 2).
