Large oak tree in California….....just breaking buds in spring. All the original limbs have broken off with age and snow load. These limbs are all secondary growth.

Captured along the Mount Evans Wilderness in Colorado, this is one of those waterfalls that kind of sneaks up on ya outta the blue, and if you blink, you actually miss it. I really don’t much in the way of long exposure shots, but after being happy with how this one came out, I am going to start doing them more. Hope ya all like it! I love photographing in bad weather, there is just something about the drama of it all that amazes me, and this was of no exception. Garden of the Gods outside of Colorado Springs is the location, a place which, is simply magical and unlike anywhere else on Earth…the light here is the best I have ever seen, and even when there is none, it still holds it own. Captured this past early spring, where at the higher elevations the clouds brought snow, but where I was at, it was rain. Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

*Sunflowers and Colorado Sunsets * Revisiting the Sunflower fields I miss so much, a magical place on the eastern plains of Colorado like no where else, a place one day I hope returns. As the front rage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains dances with the setting sun, this scene seemed something out a paradise lost, the kind of thing you only ever read about. On this day when shooting the sunset here, I shot over 400 shots and came back quite a few other times as well. Well worth it I would say! With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /

Geese returning to Alaska, framed against the Kenai mountain range across Cook Inlet. Signs and sounds of spring near our house, despite ice chunks in the inlet. Nikon D200 and a Nikkor 18-200mm at f/11 and 1/250 sec, -.3ev, using a circular polarizing filter. IS0 200. Converted from RAW to jpeg using Capture NX2. Light curve and slight crop. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area in northeastern Pennsylvania boasts many beautiful streams and waterfalls. This stream, in the Childs Park Recreation Area above Fulmer Falls happened to catch my eye, captured in full springtime flow.
