Bridalveil Falls, Yosemite Valley, CA. Probably one of the most photographed waterfalls in North America, but when you’re standing there it’s easy to see why. I got so lucky with my trip through California- in 4 days of driving I ended up catching the most spectacular light. Here the late afternoon sun on the canyon wall and the blue sky behind gave the perfect backdrop for the cascade, swollen with spring snowmelt. A little breeze to get the veil blowing, and the rainbows dancing in the mist, and it all just came together for me. It was a magical spot, you’d hardly know that thousands of tourists stand here every day… May 2007.
San Ignacio Lagoon is one of the best places in the world to see Gray whales and their calves up close. During the calving season you can go out into the lagoon in a small boat (called a panga), and after a short wait, the whale mum and calf will come up to you. They (mainly the calf) love to rub themselves against the boats and also to be scratched! You really get a close up look into their eyes! Then, just when you start to feel at one with each them, they blow salt water in your face and all over your camera! But it’s worth it!!! / / (San Ignacio Lagoon – Baja California) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
The rays of the setting sun made the lighting of the sprays very attractive.
I have learnt sometime in the past, that due to the fact that waves aren’t moving at the exact same speed, every seventh of them is double and hence much more powerful. While I was panning this shot, one of these more powerful waves rolled in, and washed a couple of meters up where I was standing bent down with my camera low. In situations like this you must think fast, and though the water is freezing cold I guess my curiosity for having an interesting shot made me choose to ignore it. / Naturally I got wet feet. But I’m getting used to it, it happens quite often. Hope it’s worth it. Aperture priority programme / Spot metering / 1/100 sec. / f/4.5 / ISO 100 RAW capture, processed in Camera RAW and PS Elements. Beach

I think we consider too much the good luck of the early bird and not enough the bad luck of the early worm. Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945)

This shot was taken off the coast of Maine in summer 2008. / I was inspired by skipping stones. The light radiated from the splashes and I enjoyed the effect. Nikon N6006 Tell me what you like or don’t like about this…
A recolored version of a spray rose bud that I did a while ago, I like this one a little better. Enjoy!

Yosemite Falls and a boardwalk leading to it. Taken in early June. I would like to come back to this same exact spot someday and shoot this when a storm is approaching with some dramatic clouds above the mountain. Every day was a clear, bluebird sky when I was there and the weather did not offer me any drama.
