Snow leopard, digitally enhanced to reveal fur texture and drama. / Captive animal. /
I don’t know if this is factual, fictional, or a bit of each, but the most commonly circulated story about how the ladybug got its name is quite interesting. According to that account, quite a long time ago in Europe, a small farming village was experiencing unprecedented problems with insects that kept devouring the crops. Faced with certain ruin, the peasants fell to their knees and began to beg the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary to send help in their calamity. Their simple faith was soon rewarded. The farmers began to notice a change in the crops. The dying foliage started to revitalize and greenness once again appeared on the landscape. Something was definitely reversing the devastation. As they looked closer, the farmers noticed small red bugs with black dots festooning their tiny concave, shell-like, bodies. Like soldiers called in to battle, they were eating the culprits—destructive aphids. “Our Lady’s bugs, Our Lady’s beetles,” the grateful villagers proclaimed. Eventually, as the small insects became a familiar part of their lives, the people shortened their name to ladybugs, the term by which they are still known today and perhaps one of the reasons why they are so well-loved. Whatever the case, ladybugs are the allies of farmers; they are tiny soldiers that patrol the fields making sure there will be food on the table for everyone.

I Don’t Do Windows / ...I say, only in my dreams. Here, I used the Black and White room for something entirely different! The “sumi-e” effect reminds me of my pen and ink and watercolors; and it is used on each element in this piece. I desaturated each color in the model, and lightened most of them, to achieve a softer, washed color effect. Red was desaturated least. Digital work, after the sumi-e style. F.A. Taken with a Canon 50D, Canon 100 – 400 L series lens @ 400mm, F5.6, shutter speed 1/160 second ISO200, edited in Photoshop Whilst in Bandavgarh National Park we were privileged enough to see several tigers. One of the best encounters was when we saw this tiger walk up to some trees, it cleaned it’s claws on the tree by standing on two legs and scratching away 10 feet up the tree. The tiger then looked over towards the spotted deer in the distance, the deer saw the tiger, there was a few moments where they simply stared at each other, it was an amazing few moments of tension. Fortunately or unfortunately the tiger must have decided there was no chance of a meal and decided to walk off into the scrubland. Please view large!

A 3 shot HDR, Processed in Photomatix Pro, blue sky gradient added in P.S. / The Seven sisters are a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel. They form part of the South Downs in East Sussex, between the towns of Seaford and Eastbourne in southern England. They are within the Seven Sisters Country Park. They are the remnants of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are gradually being eroded by the sea. / The Seven Sisters cliffs are occasionally used in film and television as a stand-in for the more famous white cliffs of Dover, since they are relatively free of anachronistic modern development. They are also featured at the beginning of the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and at the end of the film Atonement where Robbie and Cecilia always wanted to live. / As featured in The end scene of the Movie “Attonement” /
