The requirements for this piece were simply a winter storm coming over a Vermont field, with perhaps a nice buck in the foreground.The collectors wanted more realism in this piece as well as wanting it to appear cold because it was going over a large fireplace. I chose to use a sharp contrast between the earth and sky in this painting to show the power and depth of the storm, with the wary buck keeping a sharp eye on it before heading for cover. Inspired by Hemmingway’s book “The old man and the sea” I thought I would do my own version. This painting was done with the old school fishermen in mind who set out in small wooden boats with basic fishing gear or hand lines and caught large billfish and tuna. The original is 20” X 24”
