Sammy R launching into the air off the wake!
This is my son Matt. Matt loved to wakeboard and he was so good at it. This is my favorite picture of him on the water. This is the Beltzville Lake, Beltzville State Park, Pennsylvania

This competitor’s name is Bom (from Singapore), he is an amazing rider…this was his first trick where he effortlessly threw himself off the wake and into the air only to land it, grin and then wave at the camera!! LOL…he even bowed to the judges before the boat pulled away from the dock. Taken at the Pro Tour 09 of Wakeboarding at Penrith Regatta Centre, Sydney with Bill Fonseca (c) Sarah Moore 2009

THE SUBJECT: / One of the young stud wakeboarders zips along one of the many slides in the course to rack up some more points in his heat of the 2009 Wakeboarding Championships . / I really like his look of intense concentration. THE LOCATION: / One of the man made lakes at the Stoney Creek Holiday Park, Telegraph Point , NSW, Australia, just a short drive north of Port Macquarie . THE MAKING of ‘Liquid Force #1’: / I was standing on a little jetty with the late morning light coming over my left shoulder. / I metered from and pre-focused on an area of the slide nearest to me, framed the shot and waited until the wakeboarder came into frame. / Fuji S5500: RAW, 1/1000sec @ f/3.1, ISO64, Hand held. Visit the Sport & Leisure collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more wet ‘n’ wild watery action. Enjoy! WATERSKIING & WAKEBOARDING / (Click the links!) THE SUBJECT: / This very stylish young waterskier cuts through the water sending up a wet curtain as he lines up for the next buoy during the 2009 Australian National Waterski Titles. THE LOCATION: / Photographed at the Stoney Creek Holiday Park, Telegraph Point water skiing complex of man-made lakes, just north of Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia. THE MAKING of ‘Slalom with Style’: / Once again mostly overcast conditions with varying light made consistent exposures difficult. As part of my experimentation under these conditions and in panning waterskiiers I even tried shooting in high resolution jpg for a few frames. / Fuji S9600: Manual settings of f/7.1 @ 1/500sec, Auto focus, ISO80, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. Visit the Sport & Leisure collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more waterskiiing action. UPDATE: 25-8-09 / This waterski champ was awarded a MERIT in the Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club’s July 2009 Open Print Competition in the Large Colour Prints section. Enjoy! The idea of this t-shirt came to me last weekend, after my first session of wake-boarding with friends. We imagine a fictional team, the “Toby müller team”. If your name is toby muller and you love the wake board, this shirt is for you !
THE SUBJECT: / This state champion waterskier cuts through the water sending up a wet curtain as he lines up for the next buoy during the 2009 Australian National Waterski Titles. THE LOCATION: / Photographed at the Stoney Creek Holiday Park, Telegraph Point water skiing complex of man-made lakes, just north of Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia. THE MAKING of ‘Curtain Maker #6’: / Once again mostly overcast conditions with varying light made consistent exposures difficult. For a series of shots I prefocussed then followed the action to the focussing point. / Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/5 @ 1/1600sec, Auto focus, ISO80, Hand held / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. THE SUBJECT: / An expert wakeboarder hangs inverted mid-air during a cartwheel manoeuvre. THE LOCATION: / This sports photograph was shot at Stoney Creek Holiday Park, Telegraph Point, NSW, Australia during a practice session in the glorious light of a late spring afternoon. THE MAKING OF ‘Fresh Water Inversion’: / Believe it or not I left home late in the afternoon to buy some luscious Aussie prawns for dinner and because the mobile ‘Fisho’ was not at his usual spot I ended up at the waterski park just to have a look-see. / Fortunately I always carry my camera gear with me whenever I go out because I just never, never know what I might find and look what I found here! / My on-loan camera with its on-loan 100-300 lens was a mighty combination for this type of sports shooting. While the camera was a little sluggish in the fps department the lens was as fast as and was also as sharp as within the focal lengths I was using. / Servo Mode, (ie continuous focus), Multi-shot and RAW all combined well with the lens to give me this great result. / It all works so well that I had to ‘under’ process the image. / Canon EOS D60 & Canon Ultrasonic 100-300mm Lens#: RAW, 1/1000sec @ f/6.7, 165mm, -1EV, ISO100, Hand held. / Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3. UPDATE: 2-12-09 / My athletic wakeboarder has been awarded an EDITOR’S PICK on the Better Photo site. Enjoy! WATERSKIING & WAKEBOARDING / (Click the links!)
