This took me forever to complete. It started out with the spoonbill flying past an island packed full of egrets, herons, and spoonbills all nesting in the background. I used Photoshop several times to get the motion blur on everything but kept a layer without the motion blur. After I got the motion blur effect I wanted I worked on bringing back the spoonbill. The selection process (using masking and selection tools) took a long time. I wanted to make sure I got every detail on the edge. To finish it up I gave the spoonbill a boost in saturation and used an unsharp mask on the spoonbill layer. Of course I still feel like it is unfinished but I always feel that way. / Thanks for everyone’s kind comments of this photo. Kirk

The Roseate Spoonbill is a wading bird of the Ibis family. It is mainly seen in South America, the Caribbean and the Gulf Coast of the US. The older the bird, the deeper the pink plumage is in color. Unlike herons, Spoonbills fly with their neck outstretched. /

I took this pic when walking in the big jungle of «Le biodôme de Montréal» …....... :))) They started the sprinklers of mist«spray« at the same moment as my shot ,that ’s the reason for that misty effect . That bird is called «Roseate Spoonbill». /

Captured this roseate spoonbill in Ft.Myers, Florida. A century ago the roseate spoonbill had almost disappeared from the United States, as hunters killed many kinds of wading birds to procure their feathers for the millinery trade. The shooting disrupted and ultimately destroyed the spoonbill colonies. A successful preservation campaign launched by the early Audubon societies stopped much of the killing and restored healthy populations of some species. But the spoonbill continued to decline. They have since to try to balance Mother nature with human’s destructions to Florida. / canon 40D / canon 400mm /

Included in this collage are roseate spoonbills, a little blue heron, a tricolor heron, cattle egrets, and great egrets, all of them flapping vigorously. I took these photos at Jefferson Island, Louisiana. The rookery there is alive and well and thriving as you can see!

This painting of a Roseate Spoonbill was created after observing this beautiful bird at an injured bird sanctuary in Corpus Christi, TX. While there to heal before release back into the wild, I could not help thinking that this beautiful creature seemed so patient, with such a dignified sense of forebearance. Some people call the Roseate Spoonbill a Cajun Flamingo. Here is a lovely pink lady balancing delicately on a limb at Jefferson Island rookery where there is a large colony of waterfowl in residence during the spring and summer months.

(Best viewed large) Shot last night, on our local walk around the creek just up the road here in Hobsons Bay. I have Mick’s Son to thank for this and an amazing series of shots that I will be sharing with you . It had been a windy day, and not the most pleasant of conditions outside, and I thought I wouldn’t bother taking the camera, which weighs about a ton with my favorite lens.I was pretty beat after a long day’s work..My beautiful Stepson wisely gave me back some of my own medicine…“You never know what you’ll see…maybe…the shots of your life, and you don’t wanna be sorry”. Much love from my heart to my sweet Stepson. Pictured is a Royal Spoonbill I have been trying to get close to for months around our creeks…He is very shy and shaky, and takes flight at the bat of an eyelid…with my new lens I can finally start to have some deep and meaningfuls with him…From the plumage on his crown and the patches of color, this guy looks as though he’s breeding at present.
