  • A pair of Rosette Spoonbills made me walk over 60 meters after moving each time my tripod was set, they’d jump a little further until I found a nice bush to hide behind without them knowing I was photographing them. But the walk back to my Jeep was worse along the “Mosquito Lagoon”, at Merritt Island, Florida USA.

  • At Merritt Island wildlife preserve at Cape Caniveral in Florida, USA, people know and expect to see these pink birds here everytime. They’re only consistently in 3 locations in Florida, the Everglades National Park, Ding Darling on Sanibel Island, and here at Cape Caniveral. It’s always a curious thing what drives their habits, so wildlife management has tagged quite a few of them to learn more about them to help them survive. You can read more on them at this link if your a curious bird lover like me. / http://cars.er.usgs.gov/sofla/Spoonbills/spoonbills.html

  • Roseate spoonbills feed in a southern Louisiana rice field, foraging for crawfish and whatever they can find in the shallow waters. This pair rose into flight, probably on their way back to the rookery to roost for the evening.

  • The roseate spoonbill is a glorious bird in flight.

  • Capture these roseate spoonbill’s on by dog beach, in Bonita Springs ,Florida. The sun had not been up long and I guess this was their morning bath. / canon 40D /

  • Two female roseate spoonbills and one male remind me of a trio singing in harmony; I never tire of looking for these lovely pink birds which are a quite common summer sight in the rice fields and at various rookeries in southern Louisiana.

  • Photographed at Healesville Sanctuary

  • The African Spoonbill is a widespread resident across Africa and Madagascar. The migratory patterns of this species are in response to local rainfall rather than seasonal movements where it finds fish, mollusks, crayfish, amphibians and water beetles to eat. In Madagascar, the species is seriously threatened by the destruction of breeding colonies at Lake Kinkony, Lake Bemamba, Lake Ihotry and Lake Alaotra. It is also threatened by the drainage of wetlands for human uses in parts of Africa. Rendered in Vue 7i with no postwork. The African Spoonbill is from the Artist’s Songbird ReMix 3d model series.

  • Sunset tonight provided poor light for capturing all the birds in the Ding darling Wildlife Preserve on Sanibel Island. Deliberate over exposure resulted in this image. What’s your take on it? Canon 40D / Lens: 100-400mm / F: 10 / 1/15 sec. / 400 ISO

  • Attempt at catching a bird in flight. A continual learning process. Hoping each subsequent posting will be better than the last.
