This image was taken at the pier at Port Arthur, Tasmania. It was taken just after a rather uneventful sunrise due to cloud cover. While standing waiting and hoping for the light to improve, I was looking around and inspiration hit me to take this shot. This shot has had a split toning treatment in photoshop, I felt it created the mood of the morning better then the colour version.

The ‘White Queen’ as she is affectionately known is a welcome sight for ships that have rounded Cape Otway. Overlooking Eagle Rock and near Witch Rock, the lighthouse is not only a beacon to seafarers but also to travellers on the Great Ocean Road. This is the Split Rock Lighthouse that overlooks the west coast of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota. I will tell you this…I have never, and I mean never…been bitten by so many flys to ever get a photo! I am telling you there were swarms of them. Six, eight, ten on your leg at one time. Biting and gnawing at my flesh. My legs were bleeding and I had blood on my hands from killing them. They were vampire flys…I swear it!! Please View Larger

The incredible undersides of the Split-Gill fungi…......or Schizophyllum commune. The top of this world-wide found fungi is much less striking…looking like a fuzzy fan of a dullish gray-white…sometimes with a pinkish tone. Most people would walk right by not realizing the ornate beauty found underneath. / Most of these are pretty small…about the size of you’re finger nail…but some can get to about 2 inches across. / (and if u only knew how many sexes this fascinating fungi had!)
