Each August, the whale watching season begins in earnest on Australia’s picturesque eastern seaboard. As a result of my journey to Hervey Bay during August 2006, I had the pleasure to record the magnificent humpbacks as they frolicked in the calm waters of Hervey Bay. I’d like to extend an invitation to you to view my whale watching slideshow. The slideshow is a culmination of work which was undertaken by me with the kind assistance of the staff and crew of Spirit of Hervey Bay. As most are aware, the humpbacks are still being slaughtered for what can be loosely claimed as research reasons. Bearing that in mind, please give your support the best way you can to help “Save the whales”. The link to my slideshow will take you to the Photodex web site. My family and I have watched the unfolding events in Victoria this weekend and we have, all four of us, shed tears at the total and utter devastation our fellow countrymen and women have had to endure, and will continue to endure for a long time to come. For my global friends who may not be aware of the terrible bushfires that have wiped out whole communities and caused loss of lives and property on an massive scale you can read about it here One thing that has stood out for me has been the overwhelming sense of community support and courage shown by all those who have lost so much. Here, in our Redbubble community, people are also pulling together to do what they can to help out the victims of this tragedy, and to see that happening fills me with such a sense of pride in our community. For my part I will be offering all artist profits on any sales made in my portfolio this month to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal Redbubble has generously offered to match this donation dollar for dollar. If you would like to do the same all you need to do is email accounts@redbubble.com at the end of the month (27th, 28th of February) and indicate that you would like your artist profits donated to the appeal I’m also planning on going on a spending spree myself, and will be purchasing works from the generous artists who are contributing to and supporting this cause. Please think about using this as a home page….I am sure these people as well as all of us in the group would be so honored!! / OH MY….there are so many AWESOME images, clothing and writings in this group….It’s so hard to just pick 8!!! One aspect of art therapy is how we project what we are experiencing onto someone else’s art, into a written piece or an artwork we make ourselves, or even a doodle we scribble down in a moment. This is what I love about art therapy! Many of you know that over the last few weeks I have walked the journey alongside my grandmother that culminated in her death on Thursday, August 27, 2009. There have been pieces on RB that have spoken to me at very deep levels as I have gone through this and I would like to share some of them with you here. This will show you my heart for writing, art, therapy, art therapy and the stories that go along with each piece. I have included the artwork, artist and my response to their piece. I am afraid there may be more that were special to me and I couldn’t find. So anyone I left out, please forgive me. Passage by Sankofa / This speaks so powerfully to me today. I just got my grandmother started with Hospice care and I believe she “literally” has one foot in each world. It’s like she is trying to decide which world she wants to be in. Thank you for this piece sankofa – it is incredible and timely for me. Forgotten by CJ Till / This makes me think of my 96 year old grandmother who is slowly dying, much too slowly as far as she is concerned. Like your description of this house; she is old, tired, worn down and decrepit, yet she is still very loved. I am sure there are some, maybe many who die more like this building; alone, forgotten and unloved. It makes me grateful to be able to walk with my grandmother through this and that she is not forgotten like this building. Light at the End of the Tunnel by Pam Amos / Gorgeous! I see four large fingers reaching down into the light circle. For me that is the hand of God waiting to grasp onto me. I also see it is about the end of our days…my grandmother is at the end of hers in Hospice right now and this piece makes me think of her also. God is waiting for her to complete her journey. Thanks for this Pam. Facing Sorrow by mcyoung / I am so glad you have experienced freedom in the midst of the storms of your life. That is what I am realizing with my grandma, she has taught me how to continue living in the storms and traumas of life. She was 96 and just died 3 days ago. I would not choose the experiences for myself that I have had to learn from, but I trust God in His wisdom to choose and allow things in my life that will make me more like His Son Jesus. A Life of Prayer by Marcela Diaz / Hi Marcela. I received my print today of A Life in Prayer and it is beautiful! The timing is amazing as well because we just laid my grandmother to rest today . My grandma prayed for us grand kids, and great grand kids all the time. She truly spent a life in prayer. Thanks so much…it has so touched my heart today. Morning Mist by mannysdigs / I just came across manny’s work this morning at 4 AM when I couldn’t sleep. We committed grandma’s body to the ground yesterday morning and this was my response to manny and his piece. This is so very pretty…we buried my grandmother yesterday and I can almost see her walking down this path, into the mist and eventually out of my sight and into heaven on the other side. A beautiful representation of the spiritual transition from life to death to heaven! Thank you for this manny : ) It touched my soul deeply. It is a soothing image I am carrying in my mind’s eye along with every other image of the last few weeks. Each piece I have featured above has been a powerful piece in my journey over the last few weeks and each a step toward healing as I grieve and let go of my grandmother. I am grateful to each artist for sharing their work on RB, so I and others can be touched and healed through their work and labors of love. I am also including several links here to written works I have done over the last few days, since my grandmother’s death. I would include art works I have put on RB in the last few weeks but there are just too many. This drought and lack of new ideas and philosophical thought we see every day. / Humans starve even though they feed their superficial needs, lust, and belly’s. But what of the human mind? Imagination? Philosophy? Spirit? Light? We are in the darkest of caves, where we are blinded to our own spirits, and our souls cry for a new dawn to flood the earth in gold and rosy rays of fresh light. Let us find it, let us heed our inner dreams and inspiration, let us express our beauty, but most of all, let us not fear what we truly want – Truth So let us begin by uniting now and for the future I know the world needs.

We here on this wonderful site are a beautiful mix of inspiring and caring people with such creative talent but foremost what stands out to me tonight as I look at being here now for just over a year.. Is the community spirit of true fellowship based on just being there for each other while sharing and enjoying our creative offerings. And a willingness to encourage each other, be inspired and reach out to those that just may need to know that they are part of something truly life promoting… As this year draws to conclusion I wanted to find some words that were a honest expression of me right now and I did with this old offering from when I was a very much a new kid on the RB Block.
