An idea I had for a photo, and in the absence of a willing body, this one was used!
A pencil drawing of a tree spirit on smooth cartridge paper
Taken In Kasmier in the Mogul Gardens.. Love’s procession is moving; / Beauty is waving her banner; / Youth is sounding the trumpet of joy; / Disturb not my contrition, my blamer. / Let me walk, for the path is rich / With roses and mint, and the air / Is scented with cleanliness. Kahilil Gibran
This tree root is on the northern periphery of our property. We’ve lived here for over 35 years, and it’s been here all that time, in exactly the same state you see it here. I marvel at its perfect heart shape and think it’s a little note from God to remind me of his undying love. I borrowed the title from the refrain of a hymn written by Father John Foley, S.J. / Here are the lyrics of that hymn: Dwelling Place / by John Foley, SJ I fall on my knees to the Father of Jesus / The Lord who has shown us, the glory of God. May He in His love give us strength for our living / The strength of His Spirit, the glory of God. May Christ find a dwelling place of faith in our hearts / May our lives be rooted in love, rooted in love. May grace and peace be yours in God our Father / And in His son. May Christ find a dwelling place of faith in our hearts / May our lives be rooted in love, rooted in love.
November can generally be a dull month but in this grove of “Spirit Birch” near the shore of Lake Superior at Duluth, Minnesota, the forest was alive with songs and whispers on a snowless Thanksgiving Day. Printed, double matted and framed, this is a very compelling image.
Oh Come my spirits of the tree / And be a vision unto me / Show yourselves, I want to know / Are you friend, or are you foe. I caught a glimpse I’m sure I did / When I was young, oh just a kid / Of your kind dancing in the wood / Are you bad or are you good. If I should chance upon your face / Will it shine and be full of grace / If not, will it be wizened and old / With sombre lips and eyes blue cold I’ve seen your image within the bark / The growth of time has left its mark / The branches are your arms held high / Gently swaying beneath the sky My search is far my travels wide / Each time I’m near you quickly hide / Will you show yourselves to me / Or elusive ever be I know, I know now where you are / Although I’ve searched both near and far / Within my heart you will appear / And forever I will hold you dear Acrylics on Canvas When framing this painting I wanted to make it look as natural as possible so we went to the woods and found some branches (we didn’t cut them they were picked from the ground) and my partner Ian who is a carpenter did a wonderful job of making a frame from the branches. www.deborahholman.co.uk

Created in camera. I am constantly drawn to the beauty of forest and trees and the spirit of the place. With this in mind, I often try to capture more than a documentary view of place by listening to the whispers of trees and grass which guide me to the path between reality and a spiritual connection. In this image the living mystery of Spring emerges.
“It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men’s hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.” / Robert Louis Stevenson quotes (Scottish Essayist, Poet and Author of fiction and travel books, 1850-1894) / Amnicon State Park, Wisconsin / /
Tree spirits will show themselves to you if you really know how to communicate with the other dimensional realms. The key is LOVE. If you treat trees and plants and also rocks with love and respect they will reveal themselves and teach you great knowledge. Try it! my blog: Kabai33

As I walk this Native American path of the “Good Red Road” / I awaken to say good morning to Grandfather Sun, in ode; Gratitudes spoken to the four directions and All Our Relations / Father Sky and Mother Earth, not leaving out any Creations; I raise the pipe high, letting smoke rise to the Spirit, so great / asking for peace and abundance in messages to generate; Towards the “Blue Road to Spirit”, my soul flies high to seek / For my sisters and brothers to thrive whether strong or weak; As Grandmother Moon rises, again I will drum, dance and sing / Until the ways of our ancestors’ prayers are brought upon wings; Proud to be related to the clawed, finned, crawling and standing / my voice will be heard in the stars of great truth and understanding. The Green Man is an ancient pagan symbol of our relationship to the plant kingdom. Men become tree-like, and the Green Man sports plants and leaves and boughs growing from his mouth or beard or his hair. / In the Green Man we have an archetype for our relationship to both the cosmos and the Earth – to Father Sky and Mother Earth. Plants are born from and connect the two. Plants are, like us, cosmic beings; they guarantee that the sun’s generous efforts to pour its energy over the earth are not in vain. The Sun finds ready receptivity in the plants. / Interestingly, the archetype of the Green Man also respects silence and introspection, which are common traits among farmers and indigenous peoples, those who remain close to the land. The Green Man honors for us how rich and deep the roots of nature are, telling us that we need to germinate under the soil, in the silence of our hearts.
