  • Face rock peeking up toward the heavesn in the distance between two jagged seastacks on the beach near Bandon , Oregon

  • A seastack along the Oregon coast near Bandon with just enough sunset color to resemble a Halo ringing the top of this jagged rock spire on the beach near Face Rock.

  • Its all in the title. This isn’t just an ordinary Church Spire. I am told its a copy of the Spire at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. This is actually what I would consider the most prominant landmark in Peebles. Peebles is a small Scottish Borders Town which lies about 20 miles south west of Edinburgh. Its possibly my most popular image to date out here in the real world. Made the Redbubble Home Page on the 29th of August 2008. Many thanks & best wishes from Robin; that’s me!! / Milestone reached, 1000 views. Thank you all kindly; Mum & Dad too. Reached on the 2nd of Oct 2008 / As featured on the front cover of the Church of Scotland’s 2010 Diary. Many thanks for that honour. / 2000 hits reached 30/08/09, Think Catriona Hamilton was the person who reached that landmark which is pretty fitting as she’s from Peebles. / Also available as a Christmas Card!! / / /

  • This year Salisbury will be celebrating the 750th anniversary of the consecration of the completed Cathedral in 1258. / The spire is 404 feet tall, the highest in Europe… no words of mine can add anything to its beauty! Although I was born in Salisbury, so might be biased, I am sure noone would disagree with the magnificence of this marvellous building. / Captured at 17mm, 30 second exposure, f9, ISO 100 Sold as a mounted print – many thanks to the unknown buyer /

  • And to think I get to work under these spires at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Joondalup, Perth, Western Australia. Taken with my leica MP, 35mm lens, handheld, Ilford film – probably the 400 ISO. Sorry, I don’t know what the aperture or speed was alhough I would guess around f8 and 1/250th . I thijnk I was experimenting with filters around the time I took this so it might have had an orange filter on it to bring out the clouds. As is from camera.

  • Today we had a beautiful thick fog which rolled in mid-morning, settling at a low level. This is early on, heading downhill into the city. I’ll be posting a few more fog pictures over the next couple of days.

  • Gardener’s cottage, in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. Princes Street Gardens were acquired by the city in 1876 and further landscaped by the City Architect Robert Morham (1839 -1912). Morham also built the Gardener’s cottage in 1886. To the right of the cottage is the semicircle of rectangular standing stones depicting the history of the Royal Scots Regiment. The central stone is inscribed with names of the campaigns in which the Regiment took part and a central bronze plaque shows the insignia of George VI. The memorial was unveiled on 5th August 1952 by HRH Princess Mary, the Colonel in Chief. The final stone was unveiled on 9th of May 2007 by HRH Princess Ann to commemorate the end of the Regiment. Behind the Royal Scots memorial you can see the stately towers of New College on The Mound and to the right of this is The Hub, at the top of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Its gothic spire – the highest point in central Edinburgh – towers over the surrounding buildings, including the adjacent castle. Camera: Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi in the USA) / Canon 18-55mm IS lens / Exif data from the JPG / F-stop f/3.5 / ISO 200 / Focal length 18 mm BEST VIEWED LARGER Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix. • Sunrise, as seen through the spire of the Victorian Arts Centre, which is one of the most recognisable symbols of my hometown, Melbourne. Any Melburnian would know it is almost impossible to shoot dawn through the intricate netting – simply because it is so high. The only way I could achieve this angle was to take the shot from an adjacent high-rise building. I was lucky with the angle of the sun and I was very fortunate that there was some cloud haze as well. These two factors really enriched what I saw, because I was able to use a prominent angled silhouette as a geometrical counterpoint to the sky above, while the diamonds and triangles of the netting added a touch of mathematical precision and intrigue to the overall effect. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/250 sec, ISO 200, focal length 125mm. Featured in IMAGE WRITING, September 2009. Featured in FRIENDS OF BANGOR AND NORTH DOWN CAMERA CLUB, September 2009. 62-0805
