This guy kept staring at me so I pretended I was shooting the graffiti. A bit gutless but I shot him unaware in this frame. I have an unhealthy obsession with Melbourne street art.
Karijini is a national park in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is known for its rugged hills and amazing gorges.
rmc4498 / General view of typical spinifex country in South West Queensland.
Spinifex seeds always seem like free spirits to me just blowing around in the breeze… that is unless they become snagged like this one is on a shell. Taken in the late afternoon on Moore Park Beach near Bundaberg
The Spinifex pushes through deep red earth at Dales Gorge, Karijini NP in Western Australia. Fantastic range of colour in the dry environment.
Today I had an urge to photograph my favourite spinifex clump. they are one of my favourite indigenous plant :)
Spinifex as a measure of time. Central Australia. / 35 mm Color positive film, uncropped
I was in rugged remote country in outback Qld – no one else about…my sort of place ! Whilst exploring the region earlier in the day I had spotted this large isolated red termite mound and put it ‘in the memory bank’ for a possible composition. As the sun descended an amazing bit of luck occurred. The elements came together and the last of the sun’s rays continued to shine through the gap/gorge that had been eroded through the ridgeline to the west – hi lighting the termite mound and surrounding spinifex. It was very special to witness and something I feel so lucky to have been the only one to see! The Devils Marbles are a collection of gigantic rounded granite boulders, many of which are precariously balanced on top of one another. Scattered heaps of these ‘marbles’ occur across a wide, shallow valley.
I wouldn’t mind having a garden like this. / Photographed at the Devils Marbles site, Northern Territory, Australia.
The Eastern Stone Gecko Diplodactylus vittatus occurs in arid and semi-arid shrublands ranging from mallee to mulga. This individual was found during fauna surveys of spinifex north of Wentworth in far south-western NSW. This feisty Slender Mallee blue tongue Cyclodomorphus melanops (an endangered species in NSW) was not terribly impressed by being captured in some overnight traps set in the spinifex. He even latched onto my collegue who was holding it for the photos. This animal is also adult size so they are much smaller than ‘normal’ blue tongues. This shot was taken between Broken Hill and Wentworth in far western NSW. This Shingleback Tiliqua rugosa was found wandering in far western NSW during recent fauna surveys I was working on. This shot was taken between Wentworth and Broken Hill.
