  • I knew I couldn’t come back from Egypt without a shot of the Pyramids and a shot of the Sphinx, so I thought I’d save space and take them both in the same shot. A fair bit of experimentation has taken place in the processing department with a few new techniques I’ve trialled, so feel free to tell me its crap if you don’t like it.

  • This is my most recent historical-fantasy work. The “Prophecy” title pertains to the reference of a shift in global thinking whereby humankind will soon evolve to a new and elevated state of universal awareness. Within our lifetime we will witness the emergence of Compassion over Greed, in how the citizens of the World conduct business and their personal relationships. Intelligence will blossom with the embracing of psychic enlightenment and a significant progress will be made, in our understanding of additional dimensions that exist within our Natural World. Wild animals will be treated with reverence and all beings will live in a harmonious respect for each other. I look forward to this new Age of awakening… do you? A new World Vision we all can share in… which reminds me to tell you that all sales of this item benefit the great organization “World Vision”. Thank you for helping me to help them. ~ Skye

  • Your lovers are not dead, I know. They will / rise up and hear your voice / And clash their cymbals and rejoice and run to / kiss your mouth! And so, Set wings upon your argosies! Set horses to / your ebon car! / Back to your Nile! Or if you are grown sick of / dead divinities Follow some roving lion’s spoor across the copper- / coloured plain, / Reach out and hale him by the mane and bid / him be your paramour! This is part of a poem that Oscar Wilde wrote for Marcel Schwob in 1894 “in friendship and admiration.” The whole poem called The Sphinx – is really worth a read. • What a surprise i had today.here in Summit County, Colorado. While photoing finches on thistle flowers this small whirring insect came into view. I thought at first it was a hummingbird as its wings were moving at lightning speed but soon I saw that it was not. I took a lot of shots without having time to adjust any settings on my camera as i was afraid it would leave. Since coming inside to my PC I was able to research it and discovered what it is. Below a bit of information. As soon as the sun sets during the warm part of the year from much of southern Canada down to Central America, large White-lined Sphinx (Hyles lineata) moths will emerge, and like nocturnal hummingbirds, these amazing fliers can be seen zooming around the garden and hovering before flowers as they sip nectar. Occasionally, these hummingbird-like moths can even be seen during the daytime, especially late in the season. These fast-flying moths are difficult to photograph in flight unless they are hovering before flowers and the light is good, but later in the evening, White-lined Sphinx moths can often be found resting near outside lights where they are much easier to observe and photograph. Often mistaken for a hummingbird, the White Lined Sphinx Moth is about 2 to 2 1/2 inches in length. It is extremely beautiful and its wings make a purring, or humming sound as the insect moves, using the same quick hover-and-dart technique that a hummingbird has! Canon 40D / Lens 70-300mm

  • The Great Sphinx of Giza (Arabic: أبو الهول “The Father of Fear”) is a half-human, half-lion Sphinx statue in Egypt, on the Giza Plateau at the west bank of the Nile River, near modern-day Cairo. The largest monolith statue in the world, it stands 73.5 metres (241 ft) long, 6 m (20 ft) wide, and 20 m (65 ft) high. Commonly believed to have been built by ancient Egyptians in the 3rd millennium BC, it is the earliest known monumental sculpture. On the right is the Great Pyramid of Giza (also called the Khufu’s Pyramid, Pyramid of Khufu, and Pyramid of Cheops), the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis, and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that survives substantially intact. It is believed the pyramid was built as a tomb for Fourth dynasty Egyptian King Khufu (Cheops in Greek) and constructed over a 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC. The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Originally the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface, and what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. Single RAW image Tonemapped in Photomatix Pro 3.2. • The Sphinx in front of the Pyramid of Khafre also known as Kephren On 20/12/09 this image has had 111 views and 62 comments / MCN: CJA4Q-Q2HYB-QV4VQ Olympus OM1 50 mm Lens Agfa CT18 slide film, scanned Textured overlays courtesy of SkeletalMess Featured in The Grunge Art Gallery – December 2009 / Featured in Polish Places – December 2009 / Featured in All things Egyptian – January 2010 The Sphinx of Giza is a symbol that has represented the essence of Egypt for thousands of years. Even with all of the pictures that we see of the Sphinx, nothing can really prepare you for the time that you finally see the Sphinx with your own eyes. Here’s a look at the Sphinx that will give you a hint of what you can expect to see if you visit Egypt. / Carved from the bedrock of the Giza plateau, the Sphinx is truly a mysterious marvel from the days of ancient Egypt. The body of a lion with the head of a king or god, the sphinx has come to symbolize strength and wisdom. / From the north side the profile of the Sphinx reveals the proportion of the body to the head. It would appear as though the head is small in proportion to the body. Because of the changing desert terrain, the body of the Sphinx has been buried several times over the past several thousand years. Most recently in 1905, the sand has been cleared away to expose the magnitude and beauty of the entirety of the Sphinx. The paws themselves are 50 feet long (15m) while the entire length is 150 feet (45m). The head is 30 (10m) feet long and 14 feet (4m) wide. Because certain layers of the stone are softer than others, there is a high degree of erosion that has claimed the original detail of the carved figure. / The most popular and current theory of the builder of the Sphinx holds that it was commissioned by the 4th Dynasty King, Khafre (2558-2532 BCE). Khafre was one of the sons of Khufu (AKA Cheops). The Sphinx lines up with the Pyramid of Khafre at the foot of its causeway. As one rounds the northeast corner to the front of the Sphinx, the alignment of the two structures becomes more apparent. / Although the head of the Sphinx is badly battered in some places, traces of the original paint can still be seen near one ear. Originally it is believed that the Sphinx was painted and was quite colorful. Since then, the nose and beard have been broken away. The nose was the unfortunate victim of target practice by the Turks in the Turkish period. It is often erroneously assumed that the nose was shot off by Napoleon’s men, but 18th century drawings reveal that the nose was missing long before Napoleon’s arrival. Text courtesy of Guardian’s Sphinx Khafre’s pyramid is the only pyramid that retains part of its original polished limestone casing, near its apex. This pyramid appears larger than the adjacent Great Pyramid know as Khufu or Cheops, by virtue of its more elevated location, and the steeper angle of inclination of its construction — it is, in fact, smaller in both height and volume.
