  • Shimpū Tokkōtai (jap. 神風特攻隊) is the Japanese name for the Kamikaze special troops. Kamikaze (jap. 神風, literally: “God-wind”, “god speed”, “light wind”, “spirit-wind” or “divinity-wind”; common translation: “divine wind”) is a word of Japanese origin, which in English usually refers to the suicide attacks by military aviators from the Empire of Japan against Allied shipping, in the closing stages of the Pacific campaign of World War II, to destroy as many warships as possible.

  • The Ford GT40 was a sports car and winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans four times in a row, from 1966 to 1969. It was built to win long-distance sports car races against Ferrari (who won at Le Mans six times in a row from 1960 to 1965). The car was named the GT (for Grand Tourisme) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches as required by the rules. The name GT40 was the name of Ford’s project to prepare the cars for the international endurance racing circuit, and the quest to win the 24 Hours of LeMans.

  • For the most recent speed tee challenge over at A T-shirt Revolution. The passage used is from the last scene of the first half of The Outsider. I’m sure you know it: My whole being went tense and I tightened my grip on the gun. The trigger gave, I felt the underside of the polished butt and it was there, in that sharp but deafening noise, that it all started. I shook off the sweat and the sun. I realized that I’d destroyed the balance of the day and the perfect silence of this beach where I’d been happy. And I fired four more times at a lifeless body and the bullets sank in without leaving a mark. And it was like giving four sharp knocks at the door of unhappiness.
