When we have finally destroyed the world all that will be left to study is the sad and pathetic form of the species we commonly know as “Human”. Many tests will be conducted as to why we destroyed the planet that sustained and gave life to our kind. They will be puzzeled as to why we destroyed ourselves over race and religion and not being able to work together to heal the mother that gave us life. The only conclusion to be made from the tests is that we were ultimately a stupid and sad species that the universe is better off without.
Hey! Who you lookin’ at?

This is a collection that a mentor gifted us several years ago. Spence used to roam around the mountains of Utah and he collected these species of butterflies, moths, mormon beetles and various other winged insects between the 1930’s and 1940’s. / This photo is for navybrat & blamo’s new collector’s group ;)
an intimate journey into the shady and sometimes dangerous lifestyle of this large group of arthropods. from the humble barnacle to the surly whale-lice this lavish volume brings understanding to a largely misunderstood creature. with simple explanations and detailed illustrations, ‘crustacea for beginners’ is a must for any discerning crustacea connaisseur.

They are classified in the order Coleoptera (pronounced /ˌkoʊliˈɔptərə/; from Greek κολεός, koleos, “sheath”; and πτερόν, pteron, “wing”, thus “sheathed wing”), which contains more described species than in any other order in the animal kingdom, constituting about 25% of all known life-forms. 40% of all described insect species are beetles (about 350,000 species, and new species are frequently discovered. Estimates put the total number of species, described and undescribed, at between 5 and 8 million. Beetles can be found in almost all habitats, but are not known to occur in the sea or in the polar regions. They interact with their ecosystems in several ways. They often feed on plants and fungi, break down animal and plant debris, and eat other invertebrates. Some species are prey of various animals including birds and mammals. Certain species are agricultural pests, such as the Colorado potato beetle Leptinotarsa decemlineata, the boll weevil Anthonomus grandis, the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum, and the mungbean or cowpea beetle Callosobruchus maculatus, while other species of beetles are important controls of agricultural pests. For example, beetles in the family Coccinellidae (“ladybirds” or “ladybugs”) consume aphids, scale insects, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects that damage crops. Fron Wikipedia here / Buprestidae is a family of beetles, known as jewel beetles or metallic wood-boring beetles because of their glossy iridescent colors. The family is among the largest of the beetles, with some 15,000 species known in 450 genera. The larger and more spectacularly colored jewel beetles are highly prized by insect collectors. Here is yet another photographs in my personal effort to bring the body parts of a palm tree more into focus for the average soul. Everybody deserves to have special friends….even if they are plants & body parts of plants! Enjoy. Smiles Leilani
Here is yet another in this fantastic capture of the details of the composition of a palm tree! Perhaps you’ve never seen one this close-up before, because after all, folks….these mature trees are hard to reach because they are so tall! I hope you find something special & new & exciting upon viewing….CLOSER! Smiles Leilani

So few of my pen and ink illustrations from the pre-computer days remain in my personal collection. Part of my problem with creating art is that I never have the chance to amass pieces, and I’ve been neglectful of what pieces I do have. / This is a pen and ink rendering of an ant species (I can’t remember) done specimen-style. Obvious influences in this one: Gary Gianni, Gustave Dore, Albrecht Durer, Virgil Finlay. By all means, view larger! /
If you know what these lovely flowers are called, please let me know. I photographed them in the gardens at A Taste of Alaska Lodge near Fairbanks. They have a beautiful garden in summer with many fascinating antiques, ancient rusted farming equipment and tools, lovely ponds and fountains and a spectacular view over the Tanana River Valley.
