Birch fences are part of my youth where I was living,at that time my mother was in chock seeing sheeps or cows in our vegetables garden and we could see hay bundles sleeping on the field.Of course I knew that if I followed the birch fence I would find the first blueberries for the love of my life,my father…a ritual I did for most of my youth. At first I only had a few bleuberries but what a treat I had looking to my father eating the first handful of those tasty wild berries.I was so proud and happy…. :)) / Taken with a D200 Nikon /

  • Lord of the Indian Jungles, The Royal Bengal Tiger, Portrait The Bengal Tiger, or Royal Bengal is a subspecies of tiger primarily found in Bangladesh, India, and also Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Myanmar and southern Tibet. It is the most common tiger subspecies, living in a variety of habitats, including grasslands, subtropical and tropical rain forests, scrub forests, wet and dry deciduous forests, and mangroves. Since the early 1990s the tiger population has begun to decline again, due to habitat destruction and large-scale poaching for tiger skins and bones. The Bangladeshi government is trying hard to show the world that the tiger is thriving in Bangladesh, often using controversial techniques like taking molds of paw prints to track tiger populations. It was recently discovered that tigers have been wiped out from one of Project Tiger’s leading sanctuaries, Sariska. The current population of wild Bengal tigers in the Indian subcontinent is now estimated to be between 1,300 and 1,500 which is less than half of the previous estimate of 3,000-4,500 tigers. This estimate is based on a state-by-state census conducted in India in 2001. Today’s reports show there are fewer than 200 tigers left in the wild. Habitat losses and the extremely large scale incidences of poaching are serious threats to species survival. Poachers kill tigers not only for their pelts, but also for body parts used to make various traditional East Asian medicines. Other factors contributing to their loss are urbanization and revenge killing. Farmers blame tigers for killing cattle and will shoot them. Poachers also kill tigers for their bones and teeth to make medicines that are alleged to provide the tiger’s strength. The hunting for Chinese medicine and fur is the biggest cause of decline of the tigers. In India, retired Indian Army personnel are being recruited to save the Bengal tiger from poaching gangs.

    US$3.99–US$91.20

You know, when you really think about it, the whole idea of postcards is rather quaint: “Hi, I’m somewhere you aren’t. I’m having a great time. Have a nice day!!”.

  • Emancipation
    by Johanne Brunet

    US$3.99–US$91.20

For my mom… The sun is rising, east of a woman’s freshly emancipated soul. With sheer delight she will watch her new freedom rise and grow strong, carrying her accross the ocean of her life. Eagerly riding the tides, she will brave strong currents and beautiful agitated seas, fighting her way through occasional storms, tasting the salt of life, and collecting a wealth of souvenirs and precious lessons along the way. Once on the west side of her existence, the time when she will be able to look back peacefully upon her itinerary will grow near. The emancipation will then be complete, after slowly unfolding over a lifetime. Respite will appear in the guise of serenity and of a well deserved inner peace. A life of emancipation and metamorphosis, in a changing world. The photos used in this image are all mine, except for the one of my young mom at 19, obviously. I used the following photos: Mom / Early magic / Regal Butterfly / Here Comes The Sun / / It is my first attempt at creating a composite image, using several layers in Photoshop and blending them in overlay or soft-light mode. Levels, curves, gradient maps and channel mixers adjustment layers were also used to tweak the image a bit. Drop shadows were added to the two portrait cutouts to soften the edges and procure a little bit of depth. Featured in the group Images and Ideas on March 18, 2009 Finished in 8th position of Top Ten in the May’s Feature Challenge of the Stillness Speaks Group on April 25, 2009
