I used a shot of the sunset I took in Florida, with my first 35 mm camera, which was a Canon Sure Shot film camera, but I put in more sky to get the effect I wanted. Then I added my friend and silhouetted him. I love the way this composite came out.

  • The sculpture is: / ‘Public Art Strategy” / Description / Fabricated steel, 19 / metres long, 13 metres / high and 7.5 metres / wide at the wing span. / Location / Adjacent to southbound / carriageway, between / Cheltenham Road and / Dandenong Bypass. / “…A story about pl ace and identity.” / “The often controversial nature of public art is my inspiration. Situated in Greater / Dandenong, the 13 metre high painted steel sculpture depicts a giant blackbird / ominously contemplating an object, part worm – part generic modernist / sculpture. Continuing my interest in working with ideas and iconic structures, / I have named the sculpture “Public Art Strategy”. Appropriating various aspects / of Melbourne’s most famous outdoor sculptures, the work is a ‘cut and paste’ / of the City’s public art. Bruce Armstrong’s Eagle, DCM’s Melbourne Gateway, / Inge King’s Forward Surge, Clement Meadmore’s Dervish, Peter Cortlett’s Tarax / Play Sculpture and Ron Robertson Swann’s Vault are all referenced in Public Art / Strategy. I am interested in how the City’s public art icons might come together / to tell a story about place and identity.” — Emily Floyd

  • The Vermillion river in winter near Vermillion in Southeastern South Dakota. This is my favorite river to canoe in Summer. It is quiet and secluded and I never see another single person on it.

  • Wilsons Prom’s South-east Point is extremely popular and is visited by thousands of people every year. It has a lighthouse built on it (circa 1859) with superb accomodation available in the old lighthouse keepers cottages. The three cottages at SE Point accomodate 28 people and are frequently booked out in addition to this many bushwalkers pass by the spot as well. In contrast to this South-west point is visited only rarely. According to the ranger I booked our trip with the last party to pass by was in 2006. Considering the fact that there are over 400,000 visitors a year to the Prom this rarety of visits is quite amazing. It is very well defended however and few would be willing or able to pay the price in accessing this spot. Day one 21km in four hours on track (Tidal River to South Point), day two 2.5km, 10 hours off track (South Point to South-west Point). The island in the background is called Anser Island. For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery.

  • Featured in 100% in January 2009. I visited the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand in May 2007. At the end of the day, Lek, the amazing Thai woman who started the park for injured and orphaned elephants, came for a visit. Both the elephants and all the dogs at the park came running to see her, and to have a little snack. Please click here to find out more about the park. • Na Trang Beach, Vietnam

  • I must have deleted this by accident, I wondered why my views went down by so much so fast! I shake my head at myself! Anyway, here is my favourite once again. Taken at Natural Bridge in the beautiful Gold Coast Hinterland! Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. There is an interesting story to this shot which is why you won’t see it in this light very often. When I went there, they were shooting a Steve Austin movie down there. I wanted the waterfall in all it’s natural beauty and light and there was about 10000 watts of flash power set up in the cave. I couldn’t get the shot I wanted but I got a shot not many others would get. I’ve since gone back and captured it naturally but I think this added lighting really gave it the depth it deserves.
