  • A sunny day over Pretoria, South Africa. I love the big-sky feel of the wide-open landscapes that you find in many parts of Africa, and on this particular afternoon the lovely tall fluffy cumulus clouds were just wonderful to look at, and that blue sky around them offsets the brightness so nicely. Yes, this was shot with a polarizer! January 2007.

  • School kids in District Six. District Six was once a virbrant, multicultural community in Cape Town, but under apartheid it was declared a whites-only area and all coloured or black-owned properties were razed. Slowly, slowly, the post-apartheid government is redeveloping the area, which stood mostly as a wasteland for the last sixty-plus years, and offering the original families new homes. However, it’s been a few generations since they lived here, so most families choose to stay in the townships that have been home to them for generations now. District Six / Cape Town, South Africa

  • A well earned rest, after a long ride through the waters of the Okavango. The mokoro’s take a break. / The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world. / The Okavango Delta has no outlet to the ocean, instead it empties onto the sands of the Kalahari desert. Each year some 11 cubic kilometres of water reach the delta. At any point during our ride through the delta, the water was always crystal clear.
