The last remains of the old Port Willunga jetty, South Australia. Port Willunga Beach was recently named as the only Australian location in ‘Travel and Leisure’ magazine – hip travel list of emerging destinations. This is still one of my favourite locations to photograph and is only a 40 minute drive south of Adelaide. Pentax *ist DS – DSLR. Also available:

Late night, low tide and a stunning sunset…. This allowed me to crawl back into a rarely accessible cave to watch the sun go down! Blowhole, Beachport South Australia!

The most amazing light fell over Rainbow Bay, QLD at sunset on the 8th of July. The wind dropped to nothing, the swell was glassy and the colours of the sky and water kept growing richer and richer until finally darkness took over. An amazing night to be out walking, surfing or taking snaps…I hope you can get the feel!

Taken in a Winter’s storm, last light at Grange Jetty, South Australia. The wind was wild. I managed to steady the camera with a tripod behind one of the pylons and with the shutter speed slowed down, caught the magic of the waves moving in the foreground. The sun shining through the jetty as I pressed the shutter, gives this image a sureal feel. / /

Remains of a sailing vessel washed ashore off Carpenters Rocks, South East South Australia. The boat is submerged in sand and is only visible like this on low tides with slight winds. Slowly being broken down by the ocean waves. Had to wade out to get this shot as it was…

Sunrise at Kingscote Kangaroo Island, over jetty remains along the foreshore. Nature, the waves and weather slowly eroding the last reminders of days past. The site can be located opposite the Hospital heading towards Reeves Point at Kingscote. HDR using photomatix. Canon 400D with polarising filter.

Sailing boat that ran aground at Carpenters Rocks, Limestone Coast, South East South Australia. Went on a group photoshoot last night, seven of us out in the weather….. This boat is only visible like this on extremely low tides just East of the lighthouse at Carpenters. Canon 400D, 18 -55 lens, polarising filter, HDR 3 shot merge in Photomatix.

Late afternoon at Port Willunga South Australia. Looking out towards the setting sun through the remains of the Old Jetty structure. Not overly sure about the colours here, strange evening with orange red clouds and just dark enough to get a slight amount of motion in the foreground. Canon 400D, 18 -55 lens, CIR Polarising filter coupled with an ND4. Wet legs and a wet tripod, standing out in the water trying to avoid waves!!!!!!

Byron Bay Moonlight Series / Byron Bay Moon © AS IS / Byron Bay Moon ©— This shot is AS IS (bar the signature) and was taken looking down from the lighthouse (tourist area), into the ocean – quite an angle to the tripod! This was as wide as I could get it, considering the angle! See below for more information. Please excuse me for being lazy by writing all of this in one description. It will fit with all the photographs in this series. These images were taken at Byron Bay Lighthouse, New South Wales, Australia back in 2004. The photographs were shot at night, on a full moon, close to midnight, which is why you can see stars in the sky, a passing ship has its light on, and it also explains the lack of bright reflection on the surface of the ocean. The experimental portraits were taken firing my Sunpak 4500DX flash (handheld), often over and over. Where there are two people (I have deliberately blurred the other person’s face, as a courtesy!) in the image, one of them being me, we had to sit very, very still (difficult for me to do!!) – not smiling (or talking, again hard to do!) as to hold the same smile for an extended period of time can be difficult and if you move your mouth, you get blur. Of course, this explains why those old nostalgic portraits from yesteryear tend to make you think the subjects weren’t that happy! I will also be doing some creative adjustments using Photoshop but will be including that information in the Technical Data. Hope you like this series! This shot was taken before the sun came up.. I went to check out the sunrise, but a storm had blown in and there was very little colour other than blue on the eastern facing coast.. so I headed over to the west coast and took some photos at Sugar Loaf Rock.. I’m very happy I did as I just love this shot! These were the actual colours captured by the camera, I haven’t photoshoped the colours at all, I’ve just adjusted the white balance down somewhat in order to exaggerate the blue that was already there.. love this shot! 3 minute exposure @ f10, ISO100 / ND400 + ND8 + ND4Grad All comments appreciated Paul Pichugin / http://www.paulmp.com.au
