Sanibel Island, on the southern Gulf shore of Florida, is a lovely place to vacation. It is considered a sheller’s paradise and is ranked number one of American beaches noted for seashells. It also has some glorious sunrises and sunsets; this was daybreak on the island in late July 2008.

When I woke up before dawn and found myself wondering along the shore with a camera a tripod, this was precisely the image I was after. The boat reminded me of the frailties of our existence, all alone, stranded at low tide, unable to float around with any dignity with the ominous clouds closing in on it’s steel hull. Yet it stood proud and tall, living each day as it came at the mercy of nature and the elements around it.

Christmas tree worm Spirobranchus giganteus comes in an assortment of colors, reds, yellows, blues oranges and most colors in between. It retracts very quickly when threatened and appears to grow as it ventures from it hole. The worm live on a hard coral host and covers it’s hole with a trapdoor when fully retracted. Pa`ako Beach / Paako Beach / Secret Beach / Secret Cove / Wedding Beach / Makena Cove near Alanui Road Makena Maui Hawaii There are many names to describe this beautiful secluded beach east of Makena on Alanui Road bordered by lava rocks and palm trees. The wave action is extraordinary and the golden sand is luxurious. There is a large tide pool on the right of the beach which is wonderful for swimming. A favourite among the locals and enjoyed by many families with children, scuba divers and snorkelers, there are wonderful views of Molokini and Kaho`olawe Island. This is one of the most popular beaches on Maui for small weddings.
