A friend was talking to me Australia’s National ‘Sorry’ day. America, alas, has never apologised nor seems to intend to apologise, for the appalling historical attrocity – slavery. Racism lives on – in Australia, in America – everywhere. And if some of the victims are dead, then it is a major mistake to think that the either impact or the suffering is finished. Australia and America (and others – China for example) need to own up to their inhumanity and the long term effects and take serious steps to do something about it. An apology is a good start.
