  • Photographic based digital montage, 2007 (no 2 from series of 3 re-worked). Shot two seperate models & P/S combined them. I also draw in & enhanced part of the headpeice, the body, the dress, added a fringe to the face, hid the eyes, made the features more angular, blew up the lips, created cheekbones, reworked the branches, filtered wallpaper effects, extended the chandelier, added lacework/flower elements, desaturated the lot & added a sepia tone. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers.

    US$6.65–US$152.00

The only song I thought of when I did the HDR processing was “End of the World” by REM. It’s the end of the World as we know it and I feel fine… I took my Camera to Miranda Fair (our local shopping centre) today, because I was hoping to catch a few glimpses of the big storm brewing over Sydney. Instead I ended up with this.

Pink Floyd welcome to Machine. / Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. / Where have you been? / It’s alright we know where you’ve been. / You’ve been in the pipeline, filling in time, / Provided with toys and ‘Scouting for Boys’. / You bought a guitar to punish your ma, / And you didn’t like school, and you / know you’re nobody’s fool, / So welcome to the machine. Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. / What did you dream? / It’s alright we told you what to dream. / You dreamed of a big star, / He played a mean guitar, / He always ate in the Steak Bar. / He loved to drive in his Jaguar. / So welcome to the Machine

    by Lee Burgess

I lost myself on a cool damp night / Gave myself in that misty light / Was hypnotized by a strange delight / Under a lilac tree / I made wine from the lilac tree / Put my heart in its recipe / It makes me see what I want to see / and be what I want to be / When I think more than I want to think / Do things I never should do / I drink much more that I ought to drink / Because (it) brings me back you… Lilac wine is sweet and heady, like my love / Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, like my love / Listen to me… I cannot see clearly / Isn’t that she coming to me nearly here? / Lilac wine is sweet and heady where’s my love? / Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, where’s my love? / Listen to me, why is everything so hazy? / Isn’t that she, or am I just going crazy, dear? / Lilac Wine, I feel unready for my love… / / Jeff Buckley

  • Don't give in 2000 Man...
    by Natalie Manuel

    US$4.99–US$114.00

This photo and this song have always been linked for me. The song is “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot” by Grandaddy, from the album, The Sophtware Slump. The song (as is the album, which is a concept album) is about “2000” man, who represents mankind as it is now. As we reach an age where alienation is rife and technology is dehumanising our world, the song is about the idea that we are lost, without the maps or plans that can guide us. The irony is that the “they” in the song is mankind as well – we are fighting against ourselves. We ARE the pilots of our destiny but we are flailing and can no longer trust ourselves to do what is best anymore. I wanted my photo to show both the fragility and strength of mankind, that while the universe is imposing and frightning, ultimately we are in the driving seat and must stop fighting ourselves if we are to succeed. Adrift again 2000 man / You lost your maps, / You lost the plans / Did you hear them yell, / Land damn it land? / You say you can’t / Well I hope you can / I hope you can How’s it goin 2000 man? / Welcome back to solid ground my friend / I heard all your controls were jammed / Well it’s just nice to have you back again But I guess they still don’t understand / And they can never understand / And they said go find 2000 man / And they said tell him we’ve got new plans / But instead I’m here to tell you friend I believe they want you to give in / Are you giving in 2000 man? / (Did you love this world / And did this world not love you?) Are you giving in 2000 man? / Don’t give in 2000 man Click to visit my animal photography & art blog! / Email me at durberville@optushome.com.au Subscribe by Email to Natalie Manuel Photography Find me at Flickr Join my facebook group More of my work on Redbubble* /

[Amy Lee] / I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems; / Got to open my eyes to everything… [Paul McCoy] / Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul… / Don’t let me die here, / There must be something more… [Amy Lee] / Bring me to life (Wake me up) / Wake me up inside / (I can’t wake up) / Wake me up inside / (Save me) / Call my name and save me from the dark / (Wake me up) / Bid my blood to run / (I can’t wake up) / Before I come undone / (Save me) / Save me from the nothing I’ve become (Bring me to life) / I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside / (Bring me to life) Evanescence

  • They call me The Wild Rose / But my name was Elisa Day / Why they call me it I do not know / For my name was Elisa Day From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one / She stared in my eyes and smiled / For her lips were the colour of the roses / That grew down the river, all bloody and wild / When he knocked on my door and entered the room / My trembling subsided in his sure embrace / He would be my first man, and with a careful hand / He wiped at the tears that ran down my face On the second day I brought her a flower / She was more beautiful than any woman I’d seen / I said, “Do you know where the wild roses grow / So sweet and scarlet and free?” / On the second day he came with a single red rose / Said: “Will you give me your loss and your sorrow” / I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed / He said, “If I show you the roses, will you follow?” On the third day he took me to the river / He showed me the roses and we kissed / And the last thing I heard was a muttered word / As he knelt (stood smiling) above me with a rock in his fist / On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow / And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief / And I kissed her goodbye, said, “All beauty must die” / And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth They call me The Wild Rose / But my name was Elisa Day / Why they call me it I do not know / For my name was Elisa Day
