Yule / Winter Solstice Yule is the Celtic Festival of the birth of the sun. Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night, but from this day forward the light will grow rather than diminish and the year turns once again towards the Waxing half of the year. In the darkest of nights there is still the silver star of hope and a promise of regeneration. The traditiona of bringing in the Holly,Ivy and Mistletoe at this time of the year is to symbolise that although the land looks cold and dead, life still persisits and the green of Spring and Summer will come again with the stregnthening of the Sun.

The Light returns as the Sun shifts and starts moving northward again…Winter! / In the circle of life, Winter represents the North direction, the place of our elders, the ancestors and knowledge. It is the time to honor our growth, by celebrating it and sharing it with others. It is the time when Nature throws you into yourself, so that you have to explore territory that might otherwise be unfamiliar. Captured on a very bright sunny winter’s day in December down by the banks of the Ottawa River after a fresh snowfall. The late afternoon sun cast very long shadows that accentuated the loneliness of the park bench while also conjuring up the summer past. Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons

What fun this was to make. / The layers I used to create this included: / CG textures and Plaster Old CG Textures. The Plaster Old CG Texture was used as the primary jpg. I built Sister Solstice on top of it. I used CG Textures (snow and ice texture) in selective parts of the work.
