As is the case with many of my shots there is a considerable time gap between finding a good location for an image and shooting it. I found this spot in March 2007 on an overcast day completely unsuitable for photography. I finally returned in November 2007 to capture the shot I had envisaged all those months before. On this occassion the light surpassed my expectations with the results being worth the wait. With the number of visitors and photographers that visit not only Wilsons Promontory but Pillar Point and Squeaky Beach in particular it amazes me that I have never seen this composition before. This image can be purchased HERE where it is titled “reflection” and proceeds go to the Phoenix-Appeal group. Loch of the Lowes lies in the beautiful scottish borders between Moffat and Selkirk. It flows into nearby St Mary’s loch (with its thriving sailing club) past old Tibbieshiels inn, hostelry and overnight stop for walkers on the southern upland way crossing Scotland. Overlooking the north end of the loch is a monument to James Hogg – the Scottish Poet known as the Ettrick Shepherd, friend and contemporary of Sir Walter Scott. Taken 4/3/08 (untouched) with a pocket fuji finepix A500 (there is a 2nd loch of the lowes further north in Perthshire, complete with osprey viewing centre – but you can see the wonderful fish eagle hunting here too if you are lucky!) This was taken along the Princess Hwy,traveling to Bairnsdale, Victoria. It’s so sad to see the effects of the drought first hand – the paddocks lined with dead trees and in the fog were a testimony to our harsh weather AS IS
